"U" Klingon Opera...

K'riq Sa

Commodore
INTERPLANETARY Floris Schönfeld, 26, is a Dutch artist who has been developing “ ’u’ ,” a Klingon opera, inspired by the fierce warrior race of the “Star Trek” television series and movies. With a group he founded, the Klingon Terran Research Ensemble, he performed parts of the opera at the Zeebelt Theater in The Hague, most recently in July. They can be seen on YouTube clips linked to his Web site, www.ktre.nl.

Update:

Marc Okrand, creator of the Klingon language, will attend the premiere on the 10th of September as special guest of honor!

They must have a lot of free time on their hands. I hope they find time to practice even more... it just was not good. I agree that Worf gave us much better opera... Melota.

I really wanted to like this, I really did. But after watching what there is of it on youtube, I gotta admit it's downright awful. I give them credit for trying, certainly, but wow, it's bad.

It's sort of an art project, and it's from my school. I have a ticket to Sunday's show and I hope it won't be completely awful. :klingon:

I have a vague recollection of a snippet of Klingon opera on DS9. Something to do with someone (Jadzia?) borrowing Worf's opera recordings...can't find it on youtube, anyone know what I'm talking about?

After Worf and Elim Garak went into the Gamma Quadrant in 2373, searching for Enabran Tain, Jadzia Dax looked after Worf's opera collection. The Klingon was worried that Dax might lose them, Jadzia told him to "hurry back... if you want to keep your collection intact". (DS9: "In Purgatory's Shadow")

Klingon Opera Premieres

Hey, I just found this article/video this morning.

Curtain Up for the World's First Klingon Opera
via BBC News

excerpt:
The first ever Klingon opera is under way in The Hague, Netherlands. The production at the Zeebelt Theatre is being performed entirely in Klingon by the Terran Research Ensemble.

The creators Marc Okrand and Floris Schonfeld explained why they thought it would be a success.

Looks cool. Would be better with a full orchestra though. Whadya think?

Re: Klingon Opera Premieres

Read this on the BBC earlier. You beat me to posting it on here. :)

I'd watch it. I can enjoy opera without knowledge of Latin, I'm sure I can do the same with Klingon.

But wasn't there a scene where Worf played a little of his collection? I coulda sworn...can't dredge up anything on YouTube tho.

Re: Klingon Opera Premieres

Merging with the existing thread...
Hey! Use your turn signal before you do that!:rommie:

The only other time I remember hearing Klingon opera was The Chase (?) when the lounge singer (cool alien by the way!) was asked by Worf if she knew any. This was the first time I heard Melota. I thought it was a good scene.:klingon:
