Tzenkethi

^^^ I would quibble with the notion that a dominant Tzenkethi trait is "infamously violent." For one thing, how can the fame or infamy of a characteristic be part of the trait of a species? For another, I would suggest that the violence of the Tzenkethi is less a dominant trait than a description of the Federation's relationship with it. In the Deep Space Nine episode "The Adversary," Sisko refers to "the last Federation-Tzenkethi war," implying more than one such clash.

Do not picture the Kzin.

Do not think ursine in nature.

I'm just sayin'....

Well, the only reason I pictured the Kzin in the first place was because of common consonants...I mean, consonants in common

I eagerly anticipate a race of sentient Gummi Bears (the candy, not the cartoon).

I got a good laugh out of this, due to a semi-private joke among myself and a number of friends. The Gummi Empire lives! (obviously no-one knows what I'm talking about ).

David, I found Section 31: Abyss, Articles of the Federation, and Trill: Unjoined helpful (but not necessary) reading for Zero Sum Game. Are there any books you would recommend along those lines for Rough Beasts of Empire?

I'm thinking Care Bears with BIG guns.
Bring on the weaponized teddy bears:

(Karbarrans, from Robotech: Sentinels)

Rough Beasts of Empire deals with the sundered Romulan Empire, and so the events leading up to that point might be useful to know, though of course I wrote the novel to stand on its own. But events are referenced from the film Nemesis, and the books Death in Winter, Articles of the Federation, Titan entries Taking Wing and The Red King, the three Destiny volumes (Gods of Night, Mere Mortals, and Lost Souls), and A Singular Destiny. That said, if there's something within the story of Rough Beasts that a reader needs to know, I tell them within the body of the tale itself.

Thanks. I'm very much looking forward to your installment in this series, particularly because it features the Romulans. Your work with them in Serpents Among the Ruins is among my favorites (though I am still conflicted as to whether I love it or Mission Gamma: Twilight more).

Well two Typhon Pact books down and not much on the Tzenkethi, other than no one really seems to like them including other Typhon pact members.

I hope we really get an introspective look at the Tzenkethi and their culture in Rough Beasts of the Empire. Everything with the Gorn in Sieze the Fire seemed not to deep below the surface.
