Two types of viewer

Do you think you become a different viewer when you discuss the show? Having watched Voyager, Next Generation, Star Trek (I don't for example like referring it it as the Original, it is Star Trek) and Deep Space Nine, just as a regular viewer and now reading others.. does the filter change?

Just what kind of audience do the money makers, let alone the creators appeal to?

I look at the characters and just get into it. Now I wonder about the politics behind the scenes but mostly, not. I suppose the background stuff doesn't always seep through. Is it lazy just sticking with your gut?

In a way, yes.

During those years I've learned to see some aspects of the show in another light thanks to certain people who I have debated with.

My best regards goes to Teya (where is she now?) who I had some fierce debates with once upon a time but who I learned to respect. Her strong opinions about Seven Of Nine made me realize why seven had became so popular and that the character was jsu so much more than a woman in a catsuit.

Well after reading critiques of Voyager and her upkeep I have to say in watching 'Tattoo' I picked up on the mineral mention in it. I'll be so on to every reference now about maintenance and resource management.. and expect many.

It's not a bad thing to see other characters through someone else's eyes. Especially fans.

I have watched a lot of the all the shows, and you certainly get a different feel for all of them, and understand why some would appeal to some and not to others.

I try not to let other people's opinions make me enjoy something less. I can appreciate why people don't enjoy this or that episode but I try not to let negativity influence me. That being said, over the years I have come to realise that there is an enjoyment in picking apart and finding the negative in something you love just so long as you can still enjoy it afterwards.

I don't let any behind the scenes stuff sour such as an actor dismissing the show or some such. Perhaps it can sometimes mean I give a show a bit of slack if it is being held back by one thing or another (writers' strike, network influence etc.).

I will admit that watching Enterprise and Deep Space Nine (watched those last) has somewhat changed my view on Voyager to a small extent. I guess it has made me appreciate more what Star Trek is capable of because they are my two favourite Star Trek shows. But I still find what I loved about Voyager is what I love about it today. Future's End and Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy still delight just as much as the first time I watched them.
