Two Pieces Of News From "Let's Kill Hitler" Screening [SPOILERS]

Fucking Americans, think they own the world and get to tell everybody else what to do.

If you have a problem with that, you know what you should do, you should sanction the United States, sanction us with your army. Oh! Wait a minute, you don't have an army! I guess that means you need to shut the fuck up! Thats what I'd do if I had no army, I'd SHUT-THE-FUCK-UP!

Go sell some medicine to Africa.

Whoa.... just chill a bit, both of you. Have your opinions, but the expression doesn't need to be so nasty, does it?

This sub-forum does usually seem like it should be under TNZ more than any other ;)

It's none of BBC America's business who the cast is or when they change. Beyond contributing to the first two episodes of Series 6 they don't pay for it, so it's nothing to do with them.

Money talks. And, if the BBC thinks it'll help to sell it around the world, including the US, that'll be a strong factor. From what it sounds, BBC America isn't telling the BBC what to do anyway. So, chill!

I disagree, it absolutely is BBC America's business and responsibility to speak up as to what they believe will be good selling strategy, they are an investor. Of course, just like any investor, BBC America can't tell BBC Worldwide what to do, they are certainly expected to make suggestions if they feel they have a good selling strategy. I seriously doubt all BBC America did was contribute to two episodes, I'm sure they are also paying a fee to air the rest of the season.

Well I hope BBCA doesn't have too much say. The inherent 'Britishness' of DW is half of what makes it so much fun.

Strangely enough we used to have this same discussion back in the early 80's. JNT spent so much time at US cons that there was fear that he was going to 'Americanize' the show.

Only fair, considering Superman, Batman and Spider-Man are now all being played by Brits. :p

Wrong! The Superman actor is an American, and the new Spider-Man actor was born in America despite having lived in England. Only Christian Bale as Batman qualifies as a Brit.

And being born in Pembrokeshire, Wales, Bale isn't British, he's Welsh ;)
I thought "British" included Wales. I seem to recall Bale thinks of himself as English.

oh, Thor, not this shit again. yes, British does include Wales.

Not always. I know a fair few Welsh people who identify themselves first and foremostly as Welsh, also I believe Gwen and Rhys do that as well. Being English, I don't really blame them given the amount of trouble we've caused them over the centuries.

Anyway, that's beside the point as it was meant as a joke so no need to get your knickers in a twist over it.

Right, it's Americans' fault. Not BBC America, a British-owned corporation that's living up to its legal responsibility to make money for BBC Worldwide, its British parent company -- which is itself owned by the BBC. Nope. Nope. It's all the Americans trying to take over. The entire lot of 'em.

Ha ha, we stole your super hero!!!

Only fair, considering Superman, Batman and Spider-Man are now all being played by Brits. :p

Touche!

Wrong! The Superman actor is an American,

Uh, no. Henry Cavill is a Briton. He was born in the Channel Islands and educated in Buckinghamshire, England.

and the new Spider-Man actor was born in America despite having lived in England.

Andrew Garfield was born to an English mother and American father and moved to England when he was three years old. He was raised in Surrey and he is a British citizen. He's an American citizen, too, but culturally, he's British. He's lived there all his life, it's the culture he grew up in. He's more yours than ours.

So, frankly, I think it's perfectly fair to note that Britons are playing the three major American super-hero icons -- especially with Superman, who is supposed to be as uniquely American as the Doctor is uniquely British.

And being born in Pembrokeshire, Wales, Bale isn't British, he's Welsh ;)

"I was born in Wales but I'm not Welsh - I'm English."

Strongly agreed! Doctor Who should always stay a uniquely British program. :bolian:

I know a sense of humour is foreign to you, but if someone puts a ;) (or a :p as I almost very well did) it means a joke.

I knew full well that Bale doesn't consider himself Welsh, but there are many many other Welsh men and women who do not feel this way and would be offended if you or others said that they were British.

As an American, I could not agree more with this. It's as if the show is a tutorial on the pop culture of British life, taken to the world at large... and I love that!

Speaking of American-ness in Doctor Who, Moffat is asked about the Amy Pond opening narration on the US broadcasts by The Daily Beast:
I think it’s a bloody good idea. I think it makes it accessible—I know the diehard fans don’t like it…It’s stating the bleeding obvious for them, but for a brand-new audience, that’s a way in. Oh, I see, she’s human, we go in the TARDIS, we get it. It’s strictly for the foreign [broadcast], it’s not on in Britain. We were asked to do it; I wrote it. Actually, the person who said, “I bet everyone else hates it, but I absolutely love it” was Russell…If you don’t like it, ignore it, go and get the tea…It’s the right decision and I know it’s the right decision because the ratings are 20 percent up. That’s huge.
