Two Guys on a Ship

Specious : The final affrontier. These are the exploitations of the next band of greedy S.O.B.'s... well, you get the picture.

Specious - Def. - seems right but isn't. Sound familiar?

When I wrote a sci-fi screenplay some time ago, my nieghbor asked me, what's it about, two guys on a ship - that sort of thing? He sounded thrilled. I said yea, but.

Star Trek needs to be revised and reinterpreted with a modified and better defined premise - a new concept superimposed over it. It must evolve. It also must side step the new movie as well. At least the Zindi arc tried to change the shows format, structure and emphasis to concentrate and focus on the impetus of a larger central overriding mysterious storyline that kept growing, getting bigger, intensifying, and getting more involved, complex and multi-faceted with every episode.

How about future Vulcans trying to save us from themselves by projecting a telepathic hyper-meta-reality illusion on us back through time sort of thing?

But you face the same old problem, if you change it too much, reinterpret too much, it seizes to be Star Trek and becomes just another sci-fi space show.

Two Guys boldly going..... isn't that Dr. Who?

Besides, a ship with an entire crew centering on just two of them can get boring. Especially if you are going to run into the Doctor or the Engineer. If this is a Warp Shuttle or one of those Warp fighters, you will inevitably run into a starbase. People watching will expect some details when the characters run into other people on the starbase, not just pass them by like they were nothing.

Change by itself is neither good or bad. It's how you change that's important. Taking the story content of a two parter (and not a particularly good one) and spreading it out over twenty episodes isn't change for the good.

Hmmm.... perhaps Starfleet's dirty little secret, a small handful of mercenaries paid to sniff around in their universe to find out the whereabouts of rogue Cardassians and the faction's leader(s) laying-low in old Maquis hideouts in the Badlands, attacking aid vessels to the Cardassian Andak Horticultural Project.

Perhaps a (circa 2381,) Private Investigator (Bounty Hunter?) and his partner sent to retrieve a fugitive wanted on several warrants, but with the Dominion War stretching personnel and other resources especially-thin, they're limited to a surplus vintage runabout.

No thanks.

How about a crew just boldly going?

Works for me. There's plenty of room in that concept for some good ideas. There might even be a couple left no one's thought of.
Nah, slash fiction's pretty much thought of them all. ;)
