Two and a Half Men Producers Decide Not to Submit for Emmys

The producers of Two and a Half Men have decided not to submit the show for Emmy consideration this year, presumably due to the Sheen controversy. Technically, since they did have 16 episodes, they would be eligible, and, while they are not submitting the show, the rumor mills seem to be saying that they will endorse the actors, Jon Cryer, Conchata Ferrell, Holland Taylor, and Angus T. McFadden for their respective categories.

So, what do you think? Should they have submitted (even though the article says they had a slim chance of winning anyway) or did they make the right choice?

I guess I'm not seeing the logic behind not submitting. Are they worried Sheen would get honored somehow?

If the show won best comedy or something, some entertainment news outlet would shove a mic in Sheen's face for his response, which would probably be along the lines of "yeah, let's see the *bleep*in' mother*bleep*ers do it next year with Ashton *bleep*in' Kutcher! Kelso's a dumb *bleep*! Tiger blood, *bleep*es!"

Yeah, they won't come out and say it, but it definitely seems either a way to spite Sheen or, else, as od0_ital[/b] suggests, a means of avoiding further publicity connected to the show for Sheen. Everyone involved have the monumental task of getting people to watch the show in the fall, and I'm talking about the people who will watch the season premiere to see what it's all about. They have to build an audience again and I feel that the more the show is associated with Sheen, the less the audience will stick around after the novelty of Ashton Kutcher being in the show passes.

They should dump the show and start from scratch. It was only ever funny because of Sheen and after 2 or 3 seasons even that stopped being funny.

He only has a one year deal in place and rumours are they want 2-3 more seasons at least. The kid is an adult now so I don't know what anyone is really thinking.

I think they just realized their show is shit and shouldn't even me in consideration.

The one-year deal just means the network doesn't want to have to buy him out if the show is canceled. A 2- or 3-year contract means they'd have to pay out a lot more if they canceled it quickly.

On the downside, they'd have to renegotiate after a year and hope he doesn't ask for a boatload more money.

Well, they do want to get through at least 9 seasons due to the length of the syndication cycle for this show. I think it's debatable whether the show would continue to be profitable beyond that, though. There's also a point where a syndication package isn't very attractive precisely because it's so large, and thus more expensive.

It would be funny if they made it to 10 or 11 seasons by screwing with the cast every year, though.
