Twilight Zone Marathon on scifi channel.

I'm a little disappointed that they seem to be showing the same old classics, and they are breaking the marathon for wrestling? Not cool.

How about one year they show the hour long episodes? TZ is about the only thing that has survived all this 'syfy' re-branding and they are butchering this up too.

If it weren't for their showing of Merlin, and the occasional Enterprise and TNG episode, I would take this channel off my lineup if I could. As opposed to when it first came out and you had to beg to get the dang thing.

Well, the general consensus is that the hour-long episodes didn't really work, which is why the show went back to the half-hour format the following season. Most of the hour episodes feel overly padded, which is why they're not as fondly remembered.

By coincidence, I was reading an interview with Richard Matheson the other day. He was one of the show's most prolific writers and even he admits now that going to hour-long episodes was a mistake.

In general, I can see the challenge in scheduling a TZ marathon. Do you concentrate on the classics that every one wants to see (but which may be too familar), or do you run the more obscure ones that may be less famous for a reason?

Probably a no-win situation. If you choose the famous ones, people are going to complain that they've already seen them.

"Eye of the Beholder again?"

But if you run mostly lesser-known eps, people are going to wonder where their favorites are.

"Hey! You can't do a TZ marathon without showing Eye of the Beholder."

Striking the right balance between the classics and the rarities is bound to be tricky.

This was on last year.
where have you been? its on every year. its a tradition.

Usually not watching tv on new years eave, too busy getting wasted. This year and last year I was getting wasted at a later time, so I was watching tv. Frankly, even though they play some of the well known episodes, I'm just glad it's on at all. Until last year I hadn't watched TZ since the 90s, so I'm all for it. If it it's one I'm a little too familiar with I'll change the channel and come back later. This is the type of scifi I long for, that and X-Files or Star Trek of course.

I'm disappointed because I've seen every episode so nothing is new to me. :(

So it's Twilight Zone marathons every New Years'? I know there's a "Tales from the Darkside" marathon every time near Halloween, so when do they play the Outer Limits?

Brilliant.... interrupt a TZ marathon with two hours of "wrestling". :p

You know what is funny? I love the original Twilight Zone and dislike the two remakes, yet I don't like the original Outer Limits but I like the 90s remake.

They just played the one "Masks," where a rich old man makes his evil family wear hideous masks as a condition of getting all his money till midnight on Mardi Gras. Even though I know the ending, I flinch and also laugh.

I actually first started to appreciate the 80s TZ with last year's marathon. They did some cheesy crap, but there were some gems there as well.

The best TZ homage/remake was probably when JJ Abrams did a tribute episode for Felicity. It was perfect. From the story to the black and white to even the looks on the actors' face.
