Twilight Zone actor wish list.

Grant

Commodore
Commodore
My two favorite shows from the 1960s are Twlight Zone & TOS.
They pretty much covered the 60s TLZ 1959-64 TOS 1966-1969.

There were about 70 crossover actors between the two series.

What is your wish list for actor who appeared on the original TLZ but should have appeared TOS as well........

My quick list.......

Richard Kiel---(just for his size) as an alien
Lloyd Bochner
Martin Landau
Lee Marvin
Ivan Dixon
Michael Constantine
Simon Oakland
Claude Akins
Edward Binns
Steve Forrest
James Whitmore
Gail Kobe
George Grizzard
Rod Taylor
Charles Aidman
Ross Martin

any more?

^^All good.

I could have gone on but I thought I took too many choices already.

I'll add they guy from the 'Jeopardy Room' episode Van Dreesen (can't recall his first name)

Katharine Ross.

Christopher George.

Edit: oops, sorry; not on Twilight Zone. Lunch coma. Katharine Ross was in Wild Wild West; and Christopher George "El Dorado" and, of course, "Rat Patrol."

The Outer Limits also had a lot of those TOS actors as well....

Hmmm....as for Twilight Zone...

Ruta Lee

Don't just name sexy girls you'd want to see in Theiss outfits.

Like Nan Peterson or Lois Nettleton or Suzy Parker or Donna Douglas or .............

And yes, 'Limits' had a ton of crossover actors. Hmm, Donald Pleasence

Roddy MacDowall.

And yes, definitely Jack Klugman, but not in "Piece of the Action." He was a magnificent dramatic actor.

Wouldn't it have been cool to have Billy Mumy in "And the Children Shall Lead?" "Take us to Marcos XII or I'll send you to the cornfield!"

How about that guy who saw the monster on the plane wing? William something, I think... ;)

How about Cloris Leechman in one of those outfits?!

I think Grant just busted me...!:techman:

Donald Pleasance is a cool choice, btw...

Naw, that guy from the airplane gremlin episode was lame---not leading man material.

Cloris Leechman in a Thiess outfit? Now I'll have to delay dinner.

Mumy would have been better than the kid they used, but he couldn't have saved the ep.
He got a DS9 ep. anyway so i didn't include him.

I'm trying to think of actors who kinda sucked in TOS who could have used an upgrade, but most were pretty good as is. They did pretty well in snagging good actors for TOS---especially considering sci-fi wasn't always well thought of.

James Best , who I thought was pretty good until 'Dukes of Hazard' ruined his career would have been nice as a officer.

Only problem with TLZ was the lack of very many 'ethnic' actors---which TOS could have used even more of.

I liked the guy from 'Purple Testament' a lot--William Reynolds, I think. Pretty intense episode could have done a nice job for TOS.

Jack Elam would have been an upgrade for a Mudd's Women miner--but it would still have been a lame episode.

Martin Balsam would have been cool.

If you haven't seen the hour long TLZ ep. 'New Exhibit'--do yourself a favor----very good performance.

BARRY MORSE
ANNE FRANCIS
MARTIN LANDAU
RODDY MCDOWELL
ALBERT SALMI
JANICE RULE
JOHN LARCH
PAT HINGLE

Just off the top of my head . . .

For some reason Barry Morse is my all-time #1 choice of great 60's TV character actor who never appeared on TOS but should have. I think he would have been perfect in the role of an alien dignitary visiting the Enterprise.

^^^
Larch would have been great.
Salmi as a villian---very nice
Morse----ditto

Landau is my number one should have. Total no-brainer.

I purposely left out actors who later appeared on the spin-offs---like Stockwell, John Anderson etc.

Perhaps Russell Johnson as a scientist or professor.

Duh, Robert Duvall----as above if you haven't seen 'Miniature'--do so.

How 'bout a I'm glad they weren't on TOS list.

David White---sorry can't shake the Larry Tate stigma and 'Mrs Hathaway' (from Bev. Hillbillies)----please god no!!!

another 'should have' Vaughn Armstrong (you'd recognize his face)

"Could and would, could and would."---from 'Still Valley' civil war episode.

I always thought Duvall would have been the ideal choice to play Beckwith if Harlan Ellison's original script for "City on the Edge of Forever" had been filmed. Duvall was no stranger to TV sci-fi, having done not only the Zone but The Outer Limits, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and Time Tunnel.

Landau is my number one should have. Total no-brainer.

Are you aware he was offered the role of Spock? He turned it down because he didn't want to play an "emotionless" character -- which shows he didn't really understand the role. Amusing that Nimoy later replaced him on Mission: Impossible.

For those of you who don't know the name, John Larch is one of my all-time favorite character actors of the 1960's who never had a major franchise role of his own. His craggy face and stern features led to him getting a lot of authoritarian roles such as police officers. He played Harry Callahan's chief in Clint Eastwood's "Dirty Harry" movies and also replaced James Gregory as Matt Helm's boss for the final entry in Dean Martin's secret agent spoof films. But it was on television guest spots that he was prolific if nothing else, chalking up well over a hundred spots. On "The Twilight Zone", he played the ingratiating father of Anthony Freemont (Bill Mumy) in "Its a Good Life". Another notable TV role was on the WGA-winning "Naked City" episode "Today the Man Who Kills Ants is Coming" as a police officer who is undergoing a nervous breakdown. He's one of those guys who, if you're a fan of vintage TV reruns, you'd recognize the face if not the name.

^^Actually he only died a few years ago, well into his 90s---well done sir.

Great in the 'Dust' episode of TLZ

This thread died a fairly quick death, but I'd just like to add----Dabbs Greer and Jauque Aubochon.
