TWILIGHT -- What Do the Vampire Guy and the Werewolf Guy See in Bella?

Re: TWILIGHT -- What Do the Vampire Guy and the Werewolf Guy See in Be

Uh oh...(ducks, then sneakily grabs popcorn!)

Are there any sections of the books where Edward and Jacob actually have to work together and have a (by Twilight standards) meaningful conversation?

I admit I read the Wikipedia plot summaries of the books and can only hope the later entries had been vandalized. Conversely, I read some Twilight slash which may be, based on my uninformed opinions, better than the source text...of course, some would argue that that wouldn't take much.

Yes, there is, but you really, really don't wanna know :p

Don't you know? Half-humans, be they vampires, werewolves or whatever, ALWAYS dig chicks with a lazy-eye. Don't see how that would work for the book though.

Re: TWILIGHT -- What Do the Vampire Guy and the Werewolf Guy See in Be

I think trying to figure out character motivation in Twilight is a pointless exercise. The books are sexist nonsense and I'm very disturbed by the fact that so many young women worship them.

Re: TWILIGHT -- What Do the Vampire Guy and the Werewolf Guy See in Be

On the plus side, think how disturbing it would be if men were reading the books to figure out what women actually want...

Re: TWILIGHT -- What Do the Vampire Guy and the Werewolf Guy See in Be

How disturbing is a 100+ year old guy sleeping with a 16/17 year old girl... this goes for any vampire kinda story, Angel and Buffy anyone? The whole thing is kinda creepy anyway, sure, they have the "body" of a younger person, but they've been alive for hundreds of years, that's just, perverted for lusting after a young girl like that.

^thats getting into Sasami territory

Yeah. Despite their eternally youthful looks, Angel and Edward Cullen, and Spike; from their perspectives, are like centegenerians lusting after teenage girls. That's kind of... creepy.

That's okay - I'm disturbed by the fact that so many men worship James Bond, Transformers, Superbad and the hundreds of other entertainments that show shallow, stupid or asshole men getting hot babes. The amount of male bellyaching over Twilight is kind of hilarious given the severe imbalance of sexist nonsense going the other direction, y'know?

OMG I love you. In a strictly internet-never-seen-you-but-you-speak-wisely kinda way.

Twilight is very very superficial. I got that from my second reading.

The first time I was all like "omg edward is perfect". *blush*

Re: TWILIGHT -- What Do the Vampire Guy and the Werewolf Guy See in Be

Recently I watched the second and third TWILIGHT movies. (My wife wanted to watch them, since she'd read all of the books. A couple years ago, we watched the first TWILIGHT movie for the same reason.)

I didn't care for any of the movies. The biggest mystery to me is why vampire guy and werewolf guy are both so smitten with Bella. Whenever she isn't begging to be changed, she's moping around as if it's all she can do not to jump off of a bridge.

The vampire guy / werewolf guy / Bella love triangle reminds me of the Popeye / Bluto-Brutus / Olive Oyl love triangle, in that I don't get what Popeye or Bluto-Brutus see in Olive Oyl, but at least Olive Oyl isn't depressed all the time.

What am I missing?

1) Because it let's loads of winsome, soppy girls fantasise about 2 macho yet sensitive guys fighting over her?
2) Because it gives the rest of is something to endlessly mock?;)

As for Olive does anyone notice what a fickle whore she is? All Bluto has to do is stick Popeye into a space rocket and fire him off and she's swooning all over him:eek:

No, I think the books are sexist toward women, not toward men.

And I think James Bond is sexist towards men.

And I think James Bond is sexist towards men.

Well a number of the Connery ones were, sure. The current day ones not so much as the show Bond to be a flawed man who you do NOT want to be which is, I think, a great move to make.

So they should get with some 100 year old grandma? I don't think anyone wants to watch/read about that.:rommie:

Since when do "fanboys" give a shit about Don DeLillo? Since when do any boys give a shit about Don DeLillo? (Yeah, yeah, it's the Cronenberg; bite me.)

This "fanboys" term is getting out of hand.

Re: TWILIGHT -- What Do the Vampire Guy and the Werewolf Guy See in Be

It's very apt

Actually, I'm a girl but I consider myself a fanboy. It's all in the interests ;)

and, yeah, it's The Cronenberg Factor ;)
