Twilight saga may continue after fifth film

The chief executive of Lions Gate Entertainment, which on Friday acquired "Twilight" film studio Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million, said he believes the film franchise will continue to have value to his company, even after the Nov. 16 release of the fifth movie completes the adaptation of author Stephenie Meyer's four books.

"I'm anticipating 'Breaking Dawn Part 2' being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office," said Jon Feltheimer, predicting the next film would slightly outdo the $697 million global take of "Breaking Dawn Part 1."

Asked whether the franchise would continue in some form for Lions Gate, he added, "It's hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn't have ongoing value. It's an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is 'Boy I hope so.'"

One person close to the acquisition deal but not authorized to speak publicly suggested that because Lions Gate, unlike Summit, has a television production unit, it could adapt "Twilight" for the small screen.

Well this is interesting. If they do a Twilight tv show they will obviously have to recast all the actors and I think it will probably end up being some kind of reboot.

What is JJ Abrams doing these days?;)

I don't think Twilight can work as a show. Bella drooling over Edward over several seasons doesn't make great television. :rommie:

As if that stopped anyone to make movies about her drooling over anyone.. i don't know to which degree the actors are responsible for the success but there are still young teenage girls in this world hungry for shitty romantics and therefore will watch it.

Prime example of milking the cash cow.

Oh my God!

Oh my God!

No! For the love of God, no!

Twilight needs to put to rest in the fourth for good. No more movies. It isn't worth it.

It didn't work as a movie series, either. Heck, it didn't work as a book series. Nevertheless, there's clearly a large and devoted fandom that is interested in Twilight and willing to shell out money for it. A TV series is the next step, although as far as I know it's not as if the movies have left much out, so a TV series would have to invent new characters and expand the narrative (potentially, without Meyer's involvement). That may cause a bit of a fan backlash.

One would assume that such a program would go straight to the CW, which caters to young girls.

^ But the CW already has The Vampire Diaries...I'd hate to see Twilight in the line up with it...but hey it is all about the money, money!

Maybe they run with that idea that someone had when the rights for the first book were up for grabs:

Instead of the crap that the books are, the movie would have revolved around an FBI agent who hunts vampires and recruits Bella to help him. Because you know, undead creatures that kill people for food and cannot really be harmed are perfectly safe beings who should be protected and respected.

Of course this could just be me wishing that someone, anyone would make a movie where the vampire is an unmitigated bad guy treated no better than a serial killer or a cannibal.

697 million.

(Sighs)

Well, people like what they like. I stopped hating those movies ages ago. I don't like them, and it's just not worth thinking about them beyond that.
