TV's thinner than the plots of the shows they broadcast

Sony to make TVs 3mm thick.

Of course it will be a ways off before sets can be made with an appreciable size, but it's a start. As with any technology, there will be time as the processes are refined.

We'll see if this actually comes out. This has been the next great new technology for a while. One of the Japanese manufacturers, I can't remember which one, even announced a release date and then withdrew the sets prior to their shipping.

This offers the possibility of the TV that you can roll down like a screen. Amazing.

Me, I'm still buying a plasma this week. It's weird to think of a 42" plasma as a mature technology, but in this field, it is.

This is awesome, I can't wait until we can roll up our displays and unfold them or place them on walls like a poster.

Incredible...it's just so convenient to be able to mount TV's up on the wall so the kids can glide under them. Years ago you were talking about a weekend project to do that...now there's nothing to it.

That is what I'm waiting for! Like in that movie Red Planet. :)

Well, since this will be on sale this Christmas you can buy a bunch of these and tie them all together.

Never mind mounting a TV *on* a wall, I want a TV that *is* the wall...

I remember seeing the Lost in Space movie, and early on, before the robot went apeshit and the ship was working properly, the walls of the ship were active displays, IIRC.

I thought that was really cool.

I thought those interactive wall panels in the TNG pilot were cool, but who needs panels and screens when every wall...and every tabletop...is a display/interface!

Ahh you young whipper-snappers....I remember when a TV was a piece of furniture! Ahh, the ol' console days. 23" max size.

So you can spend time with 'The Family'?
Who?
Sleep through high school English did we?

If that's the case, then so did I. Although, I suspect I might an idea of what you're talking about, but damn, that wouldn't have been in high school English.

It's from Fahrenheit 451, but yeah I never studied that in English in high school either. I only read it after Fahrenheit 911 to get the reference ( :o)

I remember wall TVs in Fahrenheit 451, but Bradbury also used them in other stories. I still don't get The Family reference.

It has been 40 years since I read the book, though.

The main characters wife is always watching a family on the wall tv, she likes spending time with 'the family' on there more than anything in the real world :)

Okay, it's obviously been far too long since I read that. Now I remember. Thank you.

So thin and flexible you can roll it up liek a carpet.

This heralds a new era I thought I'd never see:

One where people can say, "Honey, have you seen the TV? I thought I left it on the toilet."
