Spoilers TVLine.com's blind item is likely DSC

I actually originally thought it was
Mr Robot
, but the line about stars is very on the nose.

I know a lot of people had their issues with DISCO's first season, but does the show really need to "shake things up creatively" to the extent of a 20 year time jump in just their 2nd season? Seems a bit extreme to me.

How would this work with L'Rell and the other main characters not on Discovery?

Hell, how would it work with Pike?

It would be interesting to have Pike meet his older self. I think it'd just be for the 2nd half of the season.

A popular drama series on cable/streaming that has actors already spending hours in makeup is planning to jump ahead at some point in its new season by 20 years. The show has literal "stars" that need to align, as well as figuratively.
Colour me intrigued! This would be very interesting.

What would the ships look like?

Or it could have be artificial aging.
I hope not - but it could be a “deadly years” prequel. Michael finds the cure for Kirk and co in the future and then saves it for Pulaski in the further further future.

More extreme than holding Qo’Nos hostage in a terror plot using a bomb that could genocide the whole planet?

I’m just bantering. I think is idea could be fun.

One beep for yes, two for no?

That would mess Pike up good.

Given that Klingons can live well into their second century, I think L'Rell might not age that much. And there are always those people in Real Life who just always look the same.

Pike is a little trickier. Unless he's not there the entire season or they jump forward, then jump back. They go 20 years in the future, but don't stay there permanently.

Either way. If they jump into the TMP Era, at least we don't have to hear about "It doesn't look like TOS!" anymore. DSC looks more in-line with the Movie Era anyway. So it works for me.

Looking over the link in greater detail, I'm not sure it's Discovery.

1. It seems to imply aging makeup for the entire cast. That suggests a straightforward aging of the characters, not a time jump via the Spore Drive. And a straight-up 20 year jump would be implausible on DIS, because the crew would have gone their separate ways.

2. It says the idea is still "in planning." Last we heard back in June, 1/3rd of the season was already filmed. By now, something like 2/3rds would be plausible. So if they were going to do the time jump it would be very close to the end of the series.

I should note though that Fuller's original idea involved the DIS crew time jumping forward. I believe the era was supposed to be either concurrent with the TOS movies or between TOS and TNG.

If DSC, it's not absurd to assume time travel could be this season's mid-season sideplot.

They already time traveled nine months into the future. Not good that they would already be recycling plot elements. Though Discovery feels like it would fit better in the movie-era 2280's.

I thought the original idea was to start in the TOS Era, go the TNG Era, and then to a Future Era. The time-frame of a non-existent Star Trek: The Third Generation. *

* Basically the series that, 25 years ago, I would've expected us to have right now.

So they’ll be messing up the TMP era now? :)
I doubt it’s them for the time jump. There would be no point.

Actually, the logical answer - if not for the makeup comment- would be The Expanse.

I say that because the book series involves substantive time jumps, which will eventually hurt the series narrative without a time jump. Though 20 years at once is a lot.

Thinking about it, I'm also leaning towards DSC isn't the series with the time-jump. I thought the entire A-plot for the season was Disco's Search for Spock.

But, that having been said...

So they’ll be messing up the TMP era now? :)

Not just messed up. Fucked up beyond all recognition. "It will be glorious!"

I'm thinking the Expanse, also. Plus it will be on Amazon now instead of sci fi. might have a lot of new sets, etc
