TVH - Clothing question

As Shon suggested, the "three month" bit is probaby there because somebody thought, not unreasonably, that Spock needed at least a few months to recover from his death and get his mind back up to speed. It also gives Kirk a decent interval to mourn his son before diving into the light-hearted fun and games of TVH, which makes sense. It would have felt strange if Kirk was breezily flirting with Gillian Taylor over pizza just a few days or weeks after David's murder . . . .

As for why Starfleet didn't come after them, I figure:

1) Sarek pulled strings to grant them asylum, and

2) To be honest, Starfleet was probably not in a big hurry to arrest a hero like Kirk and put him on trial. Heck, I imagine Kirk and crew had a fair number of sympathizers in high places who were happy to let the Vulcans deal with them. I mean, it's not like Kirk and his crew were dangerous terrorists plotting against Earth or something. They had disobeyed orders and taken their ship on an unauthorized mission, which, granted, Starfleet could hardly ignore, but nobody thought they posed a threat to the Federation--or really wanted to embarrass Starfleet by putting its greatest hero through a very public court-martial.

"Darn! The Vulcans are protecting Kirk. What a shame. Oh well, I guess we won't be able to drag him back in chains this week . . . . "

I'd like to agree with Greg Cox.

You know there is the letter of the law, and the spirit of the law. These forums like absolutes, or the letter of the law. Starfleet should have extradited Kirk and crew, and taken the captured enemy vessel in hand.

What more realistically happened tho, and Greg's comment made me remember so many cases in the Army that were handled this way, is that someone said, "Kirk...you mean the former head of Starfleet? Well, I think we have better things to do. Besides, we don't want scuttlebut or a media circus."

Reasonably, knowing their bacon was in the pan, they kept a low profile for three months. Chekov was the only one who seemed brave enough to venture into town to the outlet mall. Who could blame him? That pink sailor suit wasn't very flattering. Or maybe his family dropped him off some clothes.

So the leather jacket.... Would Vulcans believe fur is murder?

It probably wasn't real leather.

For some reason, the term 'Recover from his death' still cracks me up.
After Voyager got back from the Delta Quadrant, I'd bet somebody put a clause about it into the regulations - considering how many times various people on that ship recovered from their own deaths.

Actually, I would think Kirk & crew would have done their laundry the same way the Vulcans did theirs. If there wasn't a public facility handy, I'm sure they could probably have borrowed Amanda's washing machine. :p

Part of the delay, could have been the council deciding what to do in relation to the whole Genesis incident.

And they where all guilty of disobeying a direct order at the end of the film not just Kirk, aside from McCoy and Spock

from ST3

Sulu: "The Word?"
Kirk: "The Word is no, I am therefore going anyway."
Sulu: "You can count on our help"

I consider these to be words of wisdom, when dealing with bureaucrats and stupid people (and all too often they are the same people).

I've always thought Vulcans do not wash either themselves or their clothes, if it has no visible stains, or if they are not forced to have a shower.
