TV shows that were canceled after only a handful of episodes

Andy Richter Controls the Universe sorta counts. It technically had two seasons, but both were extremely truncated (both "seasons" were mid-season replacements for something else). A real shame, because I think it's pretty much one of the best sitcoms ever.

Richter's follow-up project, Quintuplets, however... :x
 
I loved about half the episodes of Mr. and Mrs. Smith very much, and the other half were average-to-fine. The last ep, which never aired, is awesome.

I recommend Kidnapped with Timothy Hutton. No idea why this was yanked early; it's terrific. I haven't ever seen the discs for sale anywhere, but you can watch it (legally) on line on Netflix. It's similar to 24, but with tighter plotting.
 
There was a cop show recently with the actor that plays Michael on LOST-he was a paranoid cop worried about dying at age 42. Show was here and gone so fast my eyeballs are still bleeding from the shock. It was quirky and amusing and then it was gone.
 
I liked Vanishing Son. I saw the four TV movies in '94 and then the series in '95. I remember the movies focussing on two brothers coming to America, then when it went to series, it became "The Fugitive" with one of the brothers on the run from two FBI agents and the other dead with a recurring role as a ghost.

Space Rangers, I didn't like, though I was severely biased against the show at the time. It premiered the same night Deep Space Nine premiered and at the time, nothing could have stood up against DS9. Watching the intro now, I'm surprised at how many name actors were on the show.

Black Sash... I didn't know about it when it premiered, but when I did hear about it, I thought it looked like something I would have liked, but seeing that intro now, it doesn't look that good.

I remember it. It was pretty bad. Very generic.

I remember another show called My Life and Times...

Ben Miller was an elderly man living in a nursing home in the year 2035, who frequently reminisced about his past life in this critically acclaimed series. Each episode was set in a different year, and detailed Ben's days as a college student, his courtship with wife Rebecca, and other important moments in his life.

Don't forget PAST LIFE, which was cancelled this year after only three episodes.

And, yes, it was on Fox.
 
I used to like Otherworld. It was about a family that fell through a portal while touring a pyramid in Egypt, and ended up in another world. They had to make their way to a city called Imar in order to get home.

I remember that! Great premise--not so great with the execution. But I remember watching that as a teen.

It was sort of a precursor to Sliders.
 
^ Not really because all of the networks do this. You just notice it more on Fox because they're more willing to take on the weird sci-fi stuff and thus incorrectly think they're the only ones that do it.
 
Odyssey 5 was amazing. I saw them all on Sky One. I was upset and mystified when it was cancelled. As for Firefly...

Kidnapped was great. Fortunately season 1 is really a self-contained story, so it got an ending either way (though there was a hint at the end of another storyline that was apparently planned for season 2).

It had a terrific cast, Jeremy Sisto :drool: was the lead, Timothy Hutton and Dana Delany as the parents of the kidnapped kid, Delroy Lindo, Linus Roche, Mykelti Williamson, Robert John Burke; lots of familiar faces in minor roles - Doug Hutchison, Terry Kinney, Giancarlo Esposito, Titus Welliver...
