Hi All,

My wife is preparing to embark on what (in total) will amount to just over 50 hours worth of traveling. To help her, I'm trying to load up the iPod with some TV shows that will keep her entertained. The problem is that I don't watch a lot of TV, so I don't know what would be new and interesting (or old, and unseen) for her...

I'm hoping you guys can help me out with some ideas based on programs I know she's seen and likes:

  • Friends
  • Sex and the City
  • NCIS
  • Bones
  • Lie to Me
  • House
  • The L Word
  • America's Funniest Home Videos
  • Legend of the Seeker
  • Roseanne
  • Law and Order: SVU
  • Star Trek (All of them, but especially -- and inexplicably -- Voyager)

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Lost is such an addictive show that, if one hasn't been following it on a weekly basis since it began, "catching up" is a definite all-nighter proposition. So, the first 3 seasons would basically have her occupied the entire time, battery-life permitting. :)

Batteries aren't an issue. We have an external battery pack that lets her swap out some double-A's when her charge gets low. So, with a simple trip to Sam's Club will buy her several days worth of iPod electrical goodness.

Lost. I've heard of that show. Isn't that the one where the plane crashes and the survivors have to figure out how to live? I don't know how well that'd go over... :p

You're shitting me, of course. Well, seeing how she's into action-adventure fantasy fare (Legend of whatever), I think this would be a definite step up in that genre's offering.

I highly recommend Boston Legal. I can watch that show for hours and not get remotely bored or disinterested.

try
In Plain Sight
Burn Notice
Leverage

They are all shows she can pause/stop as needed without getting lost as to what is happening. And they all have a touch of quirky humor to them that adds to their charm.

Oh, and Bones.

I am, indeed, shitting you (what a strange expression). I'll probably toss in a Lost season for her to watch on the 6 hour taxi ride after her flight. :)

Is that the one with Shatner? My uncle has been telling me to watch it for a while now.

Cool. Thanks for the recommendations.

Oh, and Bones.

Oh, I knew I forgot something in the original list. She adores Bones.

I watched a season of 24 on a road trip once, went well.

Other shows that might work...

Harvey Birdman, Dilbert (kinda old now), Chapelle's Show, Boston Legal

Magnum, P.I. (oldie but goodie)

Ain't that the truth! :techman:
Magnum PI never gets old for me.

Judging from the other shows on your list, I think she will LOVE Burn Notice and Boston Legal. You might also consider:
Dexter
Big Bang Theory
How I Met Your Mother
Jonathan Creek mysteries
Dr. Who (new version)
...and LOST. I can't recommend that enough.

looking the list, and shoving in some of my bias for the hell of it...

Dexter
Twin Peaks
Castle
Life on Mars (U.K.)

I cannot recommend Chuck enough. An action-comedy spy show, fun, addictive stuff.

These are just my likes :x Drama: Battlestar Galactica (Like Roseanne it won a Peabody Award. Also my whole family likes this one o_o), United States of Tara, Mad Men, and True Blood (contains some violence and sex). Comedy: The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wQqi34XqYk), and Community Reality: Top Chef or Project Runway

I cannot belive no one has said Heroe's yet.

Heores is amazing and season 1 is awsome i think she would love it.

Seconded. I haven't watched it much, but from what I've seen, it's ridiculously entertaining. It's pretty much only my general lack of interest in procedural and courtroom-style shows that's kept me from becoming a fan. I think it fits in well with the other shows listed in the OP.

I'd also say:

  • The new Doctor Who, for fun, funny, colorful sci-fi adventure.
  • Mythbusters for fun, funny, entertaining and educational reality TV.
  • Monk. Another quirky, funny, procedural-type. It's at home with the Phychs and House MDs of the world.
