Wow for The Mentalist! That's pretty impressive.

Too bad shows like Terminator - TSCC, Pushing Daisies, Boston Legal don't get those ratings

You know, has anyone stopped to think that maybe even if someone *wants* to watch a show they are, *gasp* too busy to? That they have a life outside of TV? That they need to work jobs and perhaps even evening jobs to make ends meet? That maybe certain nights are more prone to extracurricular activites than other nights?

This is why ratings sometimes dont mean crap and don't necessarily mean anything about interest in a show. Yes sometimes they do. But sometimes not. There have been many times I have been dying to catch a show on the first run but can't because I have orchestra, band rehearsal, church, etc.

No one has those responsibilities when the Mentalist is on--brilliant scheduling strategy! :p

(I say that as one who's never watched; looks like a Psych-ripoff geared toward making elderly ladies giggle. No offense to elderly ladies. Or giggles.)

Thanks to these really groovy new inventions they have in stores, you too can watch programs when you want and not deny yourself some good television because you're busy wailing away on the clarinet. For the old-fashioned types, we have VHS recorders. If you're a new-fangled kind of guy, DVRs are available throughout civilization. These crazy devices allow you to record a program and watch it later! Seriously!

Sometimes, you can watch episodes online, but don't think about that. The internet thing won't last. It's a fad.

Other than sports programs, I can't remember the last time I watched a show live. I work, play, stare at the walls, and you can be assured that if there's a show I'm "dying to watch," I will somehow be able to watch it.

But if that was the case, wouldn't all shows have horrible ratings?

Doesn't seem to be, relatively speaking.

But with nearly 19 million, it doesn't pull a much higher demo than Heroes, which is under 8 million. That's actually an amazingly shitty demo number. That show is lucky it does volume audience because the quality is not there. Granny is obviously in love with Simon wassisface, but nobody cares what Granny watches.

Winners...
NCIS, The Mentalist, Without a Trace, House and Law & Order: SVU

Honorable Mention...
The Biggest Loser, Fringe and Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town (R)

Losers...
According to Jim and Eli Stone

Round-Up...

CBS continues to win the night thanks mainly to the older audiences who gets all sort of loving from CBS these days and is exactly why CBS is the top dog...Old people watch more TV, have more money and spend it on stuff that is advertise on TV. There was a fad a while back, when CBS was looking to skew younger and saw the likes of Joan of Arcadia get cancelled despite overall good viewer total but luckily CBS saw the correct way to run a network and not the CW model.

The Mentalist got a huge bump out of nowhere it must be said to beat NCIS but I think it will replace NCIS just yet as top Tuesday show. Without A Trace luckily is building away from its series low a few weeks ago but only in the viewer section. CBS may want a better demo but I say, its doing good work so as the worst a timeslot movement but the show is a real keeper.

House continues to remain in the 12-13 million range due to NCIS taking all the older viewers and some of the younger demo leaving or DVR'ing in greater numbers. However House is still doing fantastic work and will see a bump in midseason with Idol's return. Fringe carries on being the yo yo and almost scored a series low ratings but I don't see any trouble for the show and only needs to worry about this 2nd season drop most shows seem to suffer of late. However I think Fringe has its own audience and next year does not need House, I think Bones/House would be better and Fringe getting Bones' 8pm slot but theres no real need to tinker I guess.

NBC had reason to smile with The Biggest Loser scoring a great return against heavy comp and it might even be a season best but not 100% sure. L&O SVU, bounced back big from last weeks awful SERIES LOW and seems the only L&O show with any legs left, the entire franchise is entering the OAP age quickly.

I don't care about sydnication as much as ABC seems to do, since they keep Jim around 3 years after it should of ended. ABC if you intend to do the same with Scrubs please don't, let it end after this year abd create a spinoff if you want but don't keep it around like Jim. Eli Stone has so dropped like a stone this season...poor mans BL if there ever was one.

CBS does not cre about the demo number, they never really ave. Most of their shows get shitloads of people to wtch and the demo is tiny. Like Boston Legal sid do people above 50 notbuy anything?

I know that....but
Then the shows on CBS would have lower ratings
