Round-Up...

CBS had a good night and new show The Mentalist had a great start but NCIS was the true star of the night, which is getting stronger every single year. Without a Trace shed off any worries with the time slot change and infact did better than any of its friday airings.

DWTS was its normal self but ABC failed with Opportunity Knocks and I cannot understand why they felt the show would even do decent work, silly silly ABC.

Fox's dodgy start got worse with House dropping viewers but I don't think its panic time just yet and the numbers will rebound though don't expect the normal 17-18 million stuff till midseason when Idol is back. Fringe is a good partner and seems to go up and down when House does so good things so far, I mean look at that sweet demo score.

NBC so called breakout year after troubles in recent times, has not gotten started yet and even though The Biggest Loser did its normal decent job, Law & Order SVU was down from a year ago though I don't think it will do an E.R and implode just yet.

90120 is not doing what CW wished but its doing decent work by CW standards especially in the demo area. However Privileged is exactly why the CW is failing...stupid show for a stupid network.

I dunno, numbers don't seem to rebound much anymore. They either hold steady with slow erosion or they drop more quickly. I'd say House is simply losing steam, and Fringe is going to need it to stay buoyant.

House is not a show that drops 6 million viewers from one year earlier though I suppose some have moved on to TIVO. I thik HOUSE will rebound in the upcoming weeks to at least 14 million but the days of 20 million are over and I think when Idol returns it will be boosted.

One thing for sure House is not an 8pm show and I think Fring could hold its own at 8pm. End of day HOUSE's demo is a real jem for FOX so it will last the 7 seasons I predicted back long ago assuming Hugh Laurie wants to stick around.

I don't normally watch any of these shows. However, I did watch NCIS for the very first time last night, and I kinda liked it. I might watch it again.

If I remember.

When House changed format last year my wife and I both lost interest. I love Hugh, but the supporting cast and what they added was important. Tossing his three underlings under the tires was a huge mistake.

^ Got to disagree because after 3 seasons what more could you get out of them in a main role, it was a brave and good idea to change House (pardon the pun) and keep the show fresh.

I still no issue with House's number, they still can go up. Last year in the fall House was getting insane numbers of 22+ million, then they went back down to 16-17 million. I think it's just because the show is on Fox. Hugh has already signed on for several more years, and there will be a lesbian kiss in 3 weeks so that should help the ratings.

House has been one of the best shows on TV over the last three years, I don't see this season being any different, irrespective of format changes. The character of House himself is such a wonderful creation, but to be honest, as far as I'm concerned, he's always been supported best by Wilson and Cuddy. The minions certainly aren't bad characters, but as mentioned above, Foreman was the only one that I'd say was essential.

the season premier is available on CBS.COM

NCIS has a lot of little nuggets for the dedicated viewer while still providing a fun story for new comers!

Non US so not chance of watching it there, one day I will begin from the start though I've said that about JAG for several years now.

There's just something about NCIS, and JAG before it, that I find/found intensely unwatchable. Odd, I like Mark Harmon, but there's just something about the show that doesn't work for me....

I was really surprised by NCIS when I first started watching it. I don't normally like crime procedurals, but the characters and the surprising amount of humor make it a lot more fun than I was expecting.
