Brilliant or not, it's considerably more funny than HIMYM, at least the viewing public sees it that way. And I agree with them.

I think the whole of TREK BBS should take offence to this and TBBT is simply a very funny show...Cylon toast FTW

I don't like it because it's clearly not written by geeks. Because the characters are cliches from the 80's. Because all of the geek references usually have no context. I swear they just look it up on Wikipedia - "hmmm I wonder what nerds are into" - just to randomly name drop nerdy stuff. And then people call it brilliant.

The characters are very broadly drawn and it's OTT, sure, but as an astronomy postdoc, I have to say that the show is, in many ways, a scarily accurate portrayal of geekdom in physics academia. What other sitcom has such accurate portrayals of how science is done as this?:

To be honest, I've never seen another TV show that comes anywhere close to matching TBBT in terms of the number of things that I can relate to in my own life and experiences.

And the science is clearly not just taken from Wikipedia. They have actually had a joke about string theory that would make absolutely no sense to anyone outside physics / astronomy. And they actually had a spherical cow joke. What other sitcom does spherical cow jokes?

I think both shows are good, but for different reasons, whats odd about HIMYM is that I just dont fancy Lily like I did Willow.

How the hell does Big Bang Theory always beat How I Met Your Mother? It's a totally inferior show. "Nerds are awkward!".

I hate Chuck Lorre. He's the Jay Leno of Sitcoms.

Not true. HIMYM has been very up and down the lest season and this year. Not nearly as good as it used to be but still enjoyable. TBBT makes me laugh my ass off every show and have had very few average and no clunkers yet.
