TV Ratings (Monday 15th December)

CBS continues to grow and I don't watch anything on it.
im a Brit, but if I lived in the US, I would LOVE CBS, im such a sucker for CSI, NCIS, and the other Jerry Bruckheimer cop shows, throw in some comedy in the form of BigBangTheory & HIMYM, the lack of reality TV on the network (however I do have to give it a black mark for airing BigBrother) and I would watch it all the time.

Don't worry about Chuck. It's already gotten picked up for a full 22 episodes.

At the moment I would say a 3rd season is looking good but midseason brings IDOL and 24 back so it could go back to levels near the beginning of the season, which would mean trouble.

Ditto. It's the network for old ladies, so I'm glad I don't like anything on it! :rommie:

But I'll check out Harper's Island this spring. Might be stealth sci-fi, like Lost.

Chuck will probably get a third season, but there's certainly no guarantee of a fourth.
They're doing a nice job extending the inherently limited premise, but even so, four seasons might be pushing it.

Um not according to recent news reports. Their CEO and owner are both losing money big time. They fired 30 executives recently too.

They may get big viewership numbers, but their demos aren't so hot. Advertisers don't like old ladies. :p Just look at CBS's so-called hit show The Mentalist. More than twice the audience but the demo figures aren't much better than Heroes, even after all the slippin' & slidin' that show has done.

CBS' biggest weakness is its geriatric audience. Sure, it doesn't get hit by DVRing and downloading but that's just because it's audience doesn't do those things. Everyone, including CBS, will be hit by the problem that younger viewers are hard to capitalize and new business models are required. Now is the time they should be devising solutions, but instead they just make complaisant speeches about how NBC may be in trouble but they're doing just fine. Hey, CBS, ask the auto industry how well sticking your head in the sand works as a business strategy.

Yeah, as much as I love the show, I'd be perfectly okay with it only going three seasons solely because of the premise.

Unless they do something in the back half of season two that completely changes said premise, but I doubt it.

Of course CBS shows are getting hit by DVR and downloads---they just don't get hit as hard because people like them well enough to watch them when they're first aired, unlike shows on other networks. It's still true that most CBS shows have better or competitive demographics in the 18-49 group. It's also still true that CBS' superior total ratings include under eighteens. Trying to age bait the CBS audience is such simple minded malice you have to wonder, what's the agenda? Anybody with any sense knows damn well that lots of older people dislike downloads only because the picture quality is lower and more uncomfortable. Plus, they are the people who actually have living rooms with whole TV sets in them.

However, iit seems that Fox shows are aimed at the people who share Rupert Murdoch's moral values. Now, there's an audience deserving criticism!

I think a shake up would be good for the show after a third season.. they need to hire me as a writer. I've got plenty of ideas!
