TV Ratings Catch Up (9th-13th)

they are not great are they, however dont forget good or bad ratings are more about the channel they are on, theCW for example to have a show which attracts 4 million + is a big deal, but CBS would not give that show a 2nd episode, if it got those ratings.

Im not sure what FOXs range is.

If FlashForward is on the bubble, surely Fringe must be toast with those ratings...?
No, you can't just do a direct comparison. The ratings threshold a show needs for renewal will vary widely depending on its network and timeslot. FlashForward and Fringe are both bubble shows at the moment. What Fringe has in its favor is that it's delivering better ratings in the very competitive Thursday 9pm slot than Fox has been able to score in the past. It currently has a 76% retention rate in the demo from Bones. If that went up to, say, 85% it would likely be safe.

Plus it has a massive DVR boost which says if they move the show it'll be really successful by FOX standards.

Personally, I'd rather Fringe continue than FlashForward if I had a choice. FF just seems to be going nowhere, and the cast I find kind of "meh".

Whereas that blond amazon appeals to the dirtly old man in me, and Walter just cracks me up.

Bubbledom is all relative.

FlashForward is trending towards the danger zone but not yet there.

Fringe is in considerably more danger.

for all that massive global hype and record international sales,
Oops. I hope they didn't pay a lot of money for FlashForward - even if the ratings weren't trending downwards, the premise is a mess and I don't see how a decent story can be made from it for a whole year much less going into S2.
I dont know the numbers, but when UK channel Five, picked it up it came with a story of how Five won a huge bidding war with other channels, and that getting Flashforward was real get for the channel.

Then there are articles like this one

FlashForward racks up 100 territories, printed on 5th October.

Final numbers for Friday's SFF shows:

Ghost Whisperer (CBS) - 8.062 million viewers (5.1/9 HH and 2.0/7 A18-49). Up from 7.992 million viewers the week before.

Medium (CBS) - 8.380 million viewers (5.3/9 HH and 2.0/6 A18-49). Up from 7.741 million viewers the week before.

Sanctuary (Syfy) - 1.661 million viewers (1.0/2 HH and 0.6/2 A18-49). Up from 1.420 million viewers the week before.

Smallville (CW) - 2.684 million viewers (1.6/3 HH and 1.2/4 A18-49). Another season high.

Stargate Universe (Syfy) - 1.802 million viewers (1.1/2 HH and 0.7/2 A18-49). Up from 1.626 million viewers the week before. Both Stargate Universe and Sanctuary posted their first increase in viewers after dropping with each previous episode this season.

Am not totally sure but I swear that 1.626 million from the week before is a FRANCHISE SERIES LOW for Stargate on SY FY Channel. Despite the increase, I do think SYFY will cut the budget for season 2 and whatever 5 year plan the writers had may need to be cut down to 3/4.

No I'm pretty sure Stargate got some 1.1-1.2 millions in the past.

I think the budget will be cut. I'm actually hoping the show gets a mini reboot after season 2. They finally get control of the she and drop everyone off at some planet and get a new crew who cares more about exploration of the universe instead of the human body.*

*That's a sex reference if you missed it.

I remember 1.1 ratings but thats not millions. 1.1 million would be a miserable hh rating. I still say it should be moved to 8pm because SYFY son't realise that even SCI FI fans do go out friday at 9pm and DVR the show.:p SG-1 scored the best ratings in that slot.

Yeah you could be right, but I thought Stargate got 1.1 1.2 ratings with a demo of like .6 or .7.

Yeh your probably right about the demo bit.

Stargate Atlantis went as low as a household rating of 0.9 in its fourth season, which I think was its series low and I think is still the franchise low. I don't have the number of viewers that translated into at the time, but I imagine it was less than 1.6 million.

Nasty :(

NBC must look over its shoulders in dread at the The Vampire Diaries, nobody is more surprised than me to see that its a hit, granted its only really that one timeslot, but theCW is starting to make NBC look bad (well even worse than it already did)

Given the weakness of the rest of the CW's lineup, it's hardly an object of envy. And NBC also has a strong contender - The Office. One strong show doesn't really count for much on any network.

They just need to airlift Joe Flanigan into that show. His hair is more intereting than the entire cast of characters! :p

Hey, I love dark & gritty & "important" as elements of a sci fi show, too, but the Stargate writers don't actually know how to pull that stuff off. They should have stuck to light & fluffy. Better yet, MGM should have hired Ron Moore to take over the Stargate franchise and reinvent it from the ground up. I'd love to see what he'd do with the Goa'uld. :rommie:
