TV Ratings (18th February) FRINGE FIGHTS BACK

Fox has ordered pilots to like 10-15 different shows when they have room for maybe 3.

Maybe they pick up two pilots instead of three then. Yeah, that's not likely with Fringe's ratings, but the point still stands that Fringe won't be cancelled in isolation, but in comparison to how much better FOX thinks they can do with one of their new pilots. Maybe their pilots will turn out worse than expected, and that will work in Fringe's favor.

"Weekend at Bobby's" is one of the most side splittingly funny episodes of Supernatural. Jensen Ackles did an outstanding job directing it. " Bobby's always been such a larger than life father figure, jack of all trades to the brothers. Seeing what he's up to when he's alone was a riot--not to mention bringing back Steven Williams--Mr. X from the X-Files--as Rufus and having the incomparable Mark Sheppard as Crowley the demon. This episode alone was worth the price of admission for season six and changed my mind to a more positive bent on season six being worth it. Bobby and Rufus the black Jewish hunter who swallowed the ring and gave it back were like grumpy old men for the backroads of America. :guffaw:

I see on other boards Supernatural fans showing glee at the death of Fringe, saying there show is winning despite the fact Fringe beats it all the time in the ratings and I have only this to say on the subject...

Theres nothing to glee about the fact your show has really no limits on failure because its on THE CW. Supernatural has only lived so long for that very fact --- THE CW is an awful network that will die sooner rather than later.

You are always going to find some fans that gloat about the misfortune of others and talk about wanting another show gone ect. You can just as easily hear Fringe fans talk smack about SPN.

But there is couple thing you really need to consider. Any SPN fan (who has a brain)knows that Fringe is going to out deliver SPN. But the statement that SPN has only survived due to the lameness of the CW while accurate also doesn't reflect that shows can do worse on networks with low visibility (and/or coverage) and they can also increase when moving to more popular networks. SPN has always done far better then average for the network its on. Its drops year to year during its run is smaller then any other show that the CW has ever aired (in the same number of years). Hell it's reruns have done better on TBS at 10am and 11am then what some have been on the CW (where it performs stronger then any TBS show that airs until you get past 2pm). Beating shows that air at the same time (when they have flexed certain days of the week), better then several shows on CBS that used to get 12 plus million viewers.

And for the last two years which show has sold more on DVD? Fringe (which should since its audience last is is nearly three times as large) or SPN? Well its been SPN.

And here's something really important. SPN is down how much in demo sense it moved to Friday from its Thursday at 9pm hour? Well so far its been just ten percent down versus its year ago numbers. Now how much is Fringe down versus its year ago numbers? Currently its averaged to over 40%. Nor would I be surprised if SPN actually earns WB more then Frigne does? Wouldn't surprise me at all. Thats far less then any other scripted show that has moved to Friday from its own network in the last 5 years. Heck Smallville made the move last year to drops of slightly over 36%, so its not just a CW thing.

Dude, don't even go there. Fringe has nothing on Supernatural, Walter Bishop notwithstanding. The only reason it beats SPN in the ratings is because SPN is on a crap network. If Fringe moved to the CW, its ratings wouldn't be any better.

But I wouldn't mind a two hour Fringe/Supernatural block. That'd be pretty sweet.
 
Fringe and Supernatural really don't need to be competing against each other. But, it's better than it being up against The Office, CSI, and Grey's Anatomy...
 
I always thought that was the worst possible timeslot... let's put it up again three Top 25 shows that incredibly popular among 18-49 year old males, and then let's also pit it against another genre show with buff guys so we lose our female audience as well. :lol:

Fox already has more than enough shows they think will be hits. Jax and I have talked about this. With The X Factor there is no room for anything. Bones is getting a spin-off, and Terra Nova is already picked up for 13, and Bones spinoff is a sure thing. There is room for many a show, but because Bones and House will be ending next year (most likely) Fox wants extra shows.

New shows are cheaper than old ones that no one watches. What it will come down to is money, how much money is WB willing to waste on keeping Fringe on the air? If WB pays Fox insane amounts of money Fox will gladly take an almost free show.
 
Fringe has another strike against it--it's produced by Warner. That kept SPN on the air when Dawn Ostroff the genius wanted to cancel it after season 2. Warner being part owner of the CW, it was making one hell of a pretty penny off SPN overseas. It still does. FOX has no similar motivation to go to bat for Fringe.

latest round of DVR numbers saw Fringe go to a 2.5 in the 18-49 demo and above 6 million (1.7 million increase)...Where the hell are these people on fridays, come on just another 0.1 or 0.2 and theres no worry.

BTW these numbers are from Fringe, Feb 4th episode that scored a 1.6 if I remember right.

FRINGE was the number 1 show for the entire week for biggest % change from Live Rating to DVR.
