Sad news for UK fans. I remember tuning in to Hartbeat almost religously during the 80s.

I could never work out why none of my artwork was ever in the gallery. I now realise that it had to be sent in to the show for some reason I just thought they must come and pick it from schools.

R.I.P Tony Hart.

Now this is sad news. I was an avid fan of Take Hart and Hartbeat back in the day.

Another legend of my childhood, gone. :( RIP

Yes it is sad. He was one of my favourite television presenters when I was little: him and Philip Schofield I think were my favourites. I even sent Tony a picture I made once, for the gallery :)

I remember hearing about 6 months ago that his arthritis was preventing him from painting anymore, so he had to give it up. I remember thinking at that time how horrible it must be for an artist to not be able to express themselves through their painting anymore, and wondering how he would cope with that loss of ability.

Did it ever get shown on TV?

I understand he painted right up until his illness got the better of him. I never knew until now that he had suffered two strokes in his later life.

Very sad news indeed. :(

I sent in a couple of drawings and paintings in my time. Never got featured... *sulk*

I was never artistic enough to send in pictures to Tony Hart. :(

I did get some pictures I copied from a drawing sketch book shown on The Childrens Channel once, though. (Nobody saw it, though.) How I pulled it off without getting caught is one of the great mysteries of life... But I digress.

I didn't say I was artistic; I just said I sent some pics in. :D

Actually, thinking back, after I was annoyed they didn't feature the first things I sent it, I did the tracing thing from another source too. Clearly Tony Hart's artwork screeners did a better job at filitering out cheats than The Childrens Channel.

I was 7 at the time. The gland in my brain that secreted morals and ethical codes hadn't developed properly back then.

Sorry to hear it. I saw him in an airport a few years ago and debated going over to tell him how much I'd enjoyed his programmes when I was a child. In the end, I didn't. I've regretted it ever since, never more so than today.

I remember about 4 years ago, he was a celebrity guest on watercolour challenge, a pleasant UK daytime tv programme, which sadly is no longer broadcast. That was the last time I saw him on television.

Very sad. I remember my graphics teacher at school hated him but i think he inspired loads of children to paint and draw. A great talent is lost.

R.I.P

I spent many a day sitting in front of the TV after school watching Tony do his magic.......great times and great memories.

Thanks Tony.
