TV Guide Synopsis Reveals an Interesting Cameo and Tidbits!

Probably playing himself, within the continuity of Doctor Who, either giving a christmas speech, or an emergency message to the citizens of Earth, that is impending doom.

And he filmed a bit for the Colbert Report while he was in office (albeit for a USO show).

I would be amazed if Barack Obama filmed a cameo for Doctor Who

ZOMG! He's the 12th Doctor!!!!!!!! ;)
not to sound in anyway nerdy, but does Obama not being President in the Whoverse create some timeline issues

Obviously 2 years previously President-elect Arthur Coleman Winters was the president-elect (taking over from Bush? ), not Obama, was Obama his vice-president? if so why was Obama only the vice president in the Whoverse, did he appear to pro alien invasions to be the president? but had enough votes to be vice?

It could work...Winters perhaps is a bigger "star" in the Democratic Party and wins the nomination over Obama, but he chooses Obama to be his running mate. Winters wins the election, then (for some reason) goes to greet the Toclafane instead of the outgoing Bush...maybe it would have made more sense for the incoming president to be the one being the face of the Americans. The Master kills the Pres-Elect, meaning that on Inauguration Day, VP-Elect Obama is sworn in as VP, then as President...

Boom! President Obama in the Whoverse! :)

i don't even understand the last two questions.

vice presidential candidates are selected by the presidential candidate to be their 'running mate' in the election campaign before becoming president. it's not like the guy with the second amount of votes becomes VP!

I would be full of awe if Obama actually filmed a clip for Doctor Who. I fully expect a news clip.

Simple answer: as with the 'President Elect' line, Russell's just put in something he thinks will be good onscreen without thinking about the background too much. And nowand ever after we can debate it online, particularly in terms of what it does to the book continuity's Presidents Springsteen, Schwarznegger and Mather.

Schwarznegger's not a book-continuity president-- that's Rusty's own invention for the TV show, from "Bad Wolf".

ok to clear up, Winters put Obama on the ticket knowing that Obama would give him the votes he needs to win.

so where does that leave Hillary Clinton? How many big stars can the democratic party have?

If this Doctor Who special features more news reports of disaster around the globe I'm never watching Doctor Who again*

*may not be true.

I always thought President Winters was supposed to be a parody (light parody) of President Bush. The actor even had a vague resemblance to him. The way he came in and took over the show, recklessly rushed into the situation, and quickly thought he could "take mastery over" the aliens...

Let alone the glee in saying, "I'm taking control, Uncle Sam" and then killing the President. Well, that felt more like a friendly "hahaha...fuck you" to America. I stress the friendly part, like you might say to your asshole friend.

I prefer to simply ignore the "elect" part of the President-elect line; after all, he acted like the President and was using Air Force One. Only the sitting President's plane uses that call sign, and only when he's onboard.
