Turn a guest star into a main character

I liked Gedrin from "DRAGON'S TEETH". He was literally a living piece of history, having been in sleep for over 800 years. I think we could have gotten some more episodeswith him, and maybe even a historical guide for that part of space they were in.

My answer to this question is Sarah Silverman's Rain Robinson; bring her onboard Voyager accidentally at the end of Future's End and give her a job in Sciences and a romance with Tom that adds tension to the eventual "sparkage" between him and B'Elanna.

First person I thought of when I saw this thread. I liked Rain, and that love triangle might have been interesting.

I can imagine Ensign Rain with an internship on the Bridge.

One who mans a station when a senior officer has to vacate his station, for an away mission, or go to Sickbay, or.........maybe do the night shift with Harry in the captain’s chair.....

Geez, the night shift crew could have been a sub series within.

With developed characters instead of a one-off.

What about Amelia Earhart?

Every episode would be about her crashing a shuttle on a new planet and the rest of the crew has to find her again. But seriously, AE as a regular character could make for some interesting "fish out of water" moments.


Or, how about if Gerrit Graham didn't die at the end of Death Wish, and instead became a mortal? There might be some storytelling potential for a former god, spending his remaining days exploring the galaxy from a mortals eye-view as a passenger on Voyager.

Rain and Amelia on night shift.

Amelia gets a Borg style implant with the ship’s database in it, courtesy of the EMH and falls in love with him.

Harry gets a nanovirus from his previous away mission and goes coma.

Amelia takes the Conn. But turns evil. A ParaBorg.

Rain can’t wake the senior officers, and has to figure out how to save the ship clandestinely, manipulating the computer system from her Ops station, while concealing her actions from the Security station.

And calls the Doc a Freakasaurus.

Tuvix is a good idea, I suppose they could have kept Tuvix around by figuring out how to beaming a clone of him before separating them, like what happened to Tom Riker. Then we would have all three as characters.

He wouldn't have had any Trekkian quest to become human but he would be always interested in learning about a species that were his distant cousins on the evolutionary tree.

And to see the planet his species ancestors came from.

Lon Suder. I'm fine with how his character wrapped up, but I'd have loved more.

I think Suder's arc was very well done and his redemption and sacrifice was one of the best moments of voyager. Brad Dourif was wonderful in the role and he shined in every episode he was in.

I wish they'd kept Mezoti on board. She'd have provided storylines for her and Naomi, as well as Icheb and Seven.

I also wish that Neelix had taken Dexa and Brax along on Voyager, instead of leaving the ship. It could have been done, considering that there were only a couple more episodes.

Yeah, that kid was good. Maybe she auditioned for Naomi, and came in second. I’m typically not fond of kid actors, but she’s got something.

My thought too, but her "fish out of water" story would have made Seven an unnecessary character.

I still think the best additional character to voyager would have been Gegen. A Voth scientist who elects to travel with his distant cousins to the ancestral homeworld. Would have fit voyager's theme and premise to a tee.

He could have provided a lot of exposition for the DQ, as well as the resident scientist role.

 

[Qonundrum]

Arcturus from "Hope and Fear", had he accepted Janeway's invitation rather than attempting to kill her, would have been an interesting direction for the show to take.
