Tuesday

Well, I just saw a promo saying SGU will be back the end of Sept. on TUESDAY nights. Personally, I wish they would leave it on Friday night.

Geez, remember when Friday nights use to be awesome for SCIFI :(

Seriously, the SCIFI, excuse me SyFy channel is really screwed up

I don't know one single sci-fi fan who likes or would watch wrasselin'!

Fracking pathetic!

I wish we had a real science fiction channel, one who isn't afraid to be a science fiction channel

The problem is that sci-fi fans are fickle and demanding. Look at shows like BSG, which were very well-done, and yet the series bled viewers year after year because it wasn't what some fans wanted. Sci-fi fans just aren't generally loyal and will not stick with a show if it displeases them in some way.

Contrast with stuff like wrestling where the expectations and production values are ridiculously low to begin with and it's pretty clear why it's a better business move to appeal to the lowest common denominator rather than try to court demographics that are notoriously hard to please.

Syfy tried to be a genuine science fiction channel. But the amount of money they would have to spend in order to create enough original, high-quality shows to attract and keep millions of sci-fi fans would greatly outweigh both ad revenues and DVD sales.

And when they do put up an offbeat, high-quality show like Caprica--which no doubt costs some pennies to produce--it gets under a million viewers.

There are simply not enough die-hard sci-fi fans to justify the existence of an all-science-fiction network.

Space Channel is still advertising it on Fridays.

Space is still airing it on Fridays. Of course, the Fridays after the Tuesdays it airs on SyFy.

Which irks me. Space can air it whenever the hell they want. Therefore it is most logical to air it the same night and time as SyFy, like they did with season 1, like they did with Caprica, like they did with the final season and second half of the third season of BSG. Hell the second half of SG-1's final season aired on Space the day before it aired on SyFy. Hell, even Doctor Who airs on Space on the same day and time as BBC America.

What the hell does Space hope to accomplish by delaying SGU three days. I'll wait, but not everyone will and you'll see an increase in people viewing the show through alternate methods and a decrease in ratings.

Even if Space aired it at the same day and time as SyFy I would still get it through alternate methods. I refuse to watch a station that is not broadcast in HD. This is the internet age. If you can't give me what I want when I want then I will get it through other means.

I don't know exactly what time on Tuesdays SGU will air. But keep in mind that Dancing with the Stars, Biggest Loser and NCIS: Los Angeles all air that night. So SGU may have a major battle ahead of it.

But then, the true SF/Stargate fanatics may just tune into SGU regardless of what's programmed against it.

The true Stargate fanatics are probably watching SGU anyway, and it wouldn't matter to them what night it's on. Sticking it against more competition is probably going to hurt it more than help it, however.

I like SGU but if I had to choose between that and NCIS LA. I'd pick NCIS LA. But then I merely like the Stargate shows. Maybe if I loved them I'd go for SGU over anything else.

There is nothing better than coming home from a long week on work and watching some Stargate. It was best when we have the triple play of SG-1, SGA, and BSG.

I'm not crazy about this being on Tuesdays, so if I come back for SGU, I'll probably DVR it on Tuesday night and just wait for Friday night to watch it. I'm guessing that this will be the last season for SGU, because of the expense to produce, especially compared to the wrestling, which is apparantly more of a natural fit for the Syfy channel anyway.
Also, SGU will be buried by network programming anyway, especially when Idol comes back in the spring.
