Trying to get Greek citizenship

Just bribe your way in. ;)

I hear they need the money more than ever these days... :D

I never bothered to get a Greek passport, though I'm entitled to (Greek mother). I figure teh two nationalities I already have are enough, and I'll skip getting the 3rd and 4th ones I'd be entitled to.

I'm impressed, I thought little miss trampledamage was impressive being eligible for three (well she will be once I get round to filling in the Canada forms)

I'm cheating a bit - if I got the 4th one, I'd have to renounce the other three, but still, technically I'm entitled to them all.

If you only want to live and work there, why is it necessary to become a Greek citizen? Why not just apply for a work visa and/or resident alien status? Are you planning to make Greece your permanent home?

I think it's very difficult to get such a visa, unless you're a very highly skilled (and paid) person. At least it's close to impossible for Europeans to get such a visa in Canada as far as I know and I think these things usually work the same way in both directions.

Yeah I considered the work visa ,but figured it would be harder to get.

I think most EU countries have their own rules regarding immigration. Have you actually looked into getting a work visa for the UK, John200? I don't want to discourage you, but I think getting Greek citizenship is a rather lengthy process. Also, many countries require language and political knowledge tests before giving you citizenships.

I have looked into it ,but got the bright idea of trying to get EU citizenship.

And I will wait as long as it takes.

Are you sure it's a good time to get a Greek citizenship? ;)

I originally thought the exact same thing. Greece, much like the state of Ohio, is suffering from a great migration of their college educated populations as the economy continues to suffer in recession and absurdly high unemployment.
