Trying to find a Star Trek (TOS) book

I guess you could say they taught us to love Star Trek in school.:)

I also got most of my James Blish adaptations from a book sale held by my old high school library in the early 80s...this one is a "Perma-Bound" hardcover. Wish my TMOST was.

I bought most of mine in the seventies from Whartons! A book shop that used to exist in the town which I live! Volumes three, four, five, six, seven and ten in the original cover of Kirk,Spock,McCoy and Scotty! The first was the one with Kirk and Spock in their WNMHGB uniforms and the US advert for the show starting. The second was a photo of Shat and Nimoy (although I did find a copy of #2 with the original cover once and was tempted) eight, nine, eleven and twelve were with the newer painted covers but I must say I prefer the team look!

I got my TMOST in '73, a 10th printing with the white cover featuring the eleven-footer firing phasers.

Years later, I ran across a First Edition, 1st printing in a second hand book store for a few bucks. It features the three-footer on a sky background and a photo of Kirk and Spock. Opening it up, I noticed that it had been autographed inside by both James Doohan and George Takei. I inquired at the register if the price was marked correctly. They assured me it was; although I'm fairly certain they had no idea of what they had. Best deal I ever got on a book.

It sounds like a fan got the book autographed at a convention, and then maybe he died or something and his next of kin just unloaded all his books to a shop for next to nothing. Before the Internet, it was that or a garage sale.

Cool!

At some point in the early ‘80’s I snagged a used 4th printing of TMoST (for a buck) with Gene Roddenberry’s autograph on the page with the never-used lyrics to the Star Trek theme. In unread condition. That was a good day.

The odd thing about the autographs in the book. They are dated 8/17/75, which is one week before both actors appeared at a large convention in Chicago. I have made a search online and can't find record of any convention that occurred that previous weekend. I am guessing that the dates were added after the fact by the owner (different handwriting) and that he misremembered which weekend the convention was.
