Try out Star Trek Online for free

If anyone wants to try out Star Trek Online for free, feel free to send me a PM and I can give you a refer key so that you can check the game out.

While still far (far) from perfect, its still a pretty fun game if you haven't tried it yet.

There's also a free demo that was just released.

Word of warning: if you use the demo and decide to subscribe, then you get less. If you use a refer from someone like me, there's a couple trinkets they throw you (and me). I've got a few of those limited shuttlecraft I'd give out to anyone who actually signed up through me too.

If this game had generated decent reports and reviews, I would have built a new super duper PC for it.

But alas, the news hasn't been too good. I'll wait until the third Diablo game is released. Sometime around the end of time..

Well, don't worry. Duke Nukem Forever is slated to come out about three weeks after the end of time, so it could be worse.

OK, I just tried the demo and I have to say, I don't get what all the fuss is about. It's dull and not very engaging. I spent more time playing with the character creation tool designing a weird albino alien than I did running through corridors shooting things or flying through space shooting things.
I admit, I'm not much of a fan RPGs to begin with (with a few notable exceptions) but the game play and combat system just feels...I don't know, not awkward exactly, I mean it works ok but I can't help feeling remote and disconnected. Not immersive at all.
Perhaps it was just because I was playing the free version, but I didn' get much of a sense of the wider community that's supposed to be one of the main selling point of any MMORPG. That is unless you count the little chat window that's full of what I assume are fellow noobs asking how to do this or that.
Oh and I was very disappointed with the starship customisation. I thought there'd be the same amount of slider-bar fiddling to deform the default shapes any way you like. Instead it's just a kit-bashing engine.
So tell me, does the demo gibe an accurate sense of the game or dose it get radically better once you subscribe?
