True Q

Recentky I watched the ep True Q, to refresh those who have not seen it for a while:
On the Enterprise is a girl with the the powere of the Continuum. And our old friend Q has come to collect her. He has to persuade that she has only one choice. otherwise she has to die because of the power that she has. [I think that just about covers it?].

Why the death threat? The Continuum have the power to take away these powers, they did when they were mad at Q in Deja Q. Can't remember the ep but they/he even gave Riker the power for a while. So, why the drastic measure of the death penalty if she didn't join them?

I never much cared for this episode. It isn't awful just really boring and I could have cared less about Amanda and the Q in this one.

If I remember correctly, It was John Delance who asked to include the bit about killing Amanda. He said he wanted to bring back some of Q's earlier menace.

I've always thought the use of the powers of the Q was pretty inconsistant. If you watch all of the Q episodes there are a lot of issues with the way the writers used/changed the powers of the Q.

I'd have to go back and rewatch the ep, but I seem to recall the issue with the death threat had to do with the Continuum's fear that unless Amanda accepted Q's guidance and joined them, she could become a very grave threat without the ability to control her powers. Not unlike how Quinn got himself and the VOY crew into a degree of trouble when he tried to use his powers to commit suicide.
