um no comment. But I vaguely remember it being mentioned on the Firewall and Iceberg podcast. Does that mean they'll air episode 2 next week or just go straight to episode 3?

^^
Fair enough, hopefully all the storyline threads make for a compelling whole.

Rutina Wesley has a no-nudity clause? She looked pretty naked in season one with Sam and then in season two with Eggs. What does the clause necessarily entail?

Hmm, well I don't remember those well enough to comment so if I'm wrong there so be it.

She have never shown her boobs or vag in the show. She is always wearing a bra or something. She clearly does not want to show off the goods. Paquin only agreed to to nude scenes because she was engaged (now married) to Moyer. If there is any sex scene with sookie and someone else (eric, alcide?) I will garauntee you wont see her nude.
And yet, there was a scene in episode two (available on hbogo.com, and will air next week) where she is clearly nude, showing her breasts, and the scene is with Eric, not Bill. She has relaxed a bit. Her initial contract did state she would not do any nudity whatsoever. (per Charlaine Harris)

Episode 2 is available on hbogo.com for now, and will be aired next Sunday. The following week, we'll get episode 3.

My understanding is that this is the only time they will show a full episode (this season) before it officially airs.

Any particular reason why? Will this ensure people who aren't HBO subscribers to just watch them via hbogo.com? I guess that would generate traffic in some aspect.

As a gift for subscribers, I'd imagine. And I don't believe you can access content on the site unless you're a subscriber. I know I had to create an account and then verify my cable subscription (and sign in there TOO) before I could access the site's contents.

Another thing that bugs me is the near-infinite speed exhibited by the vampires. Once again, I find myself wondering how the humans could pose any significant threat to them.

Numbers and the ability to act in broad daylight.. if it ever came to widespread war between humans and vampires i believe vampires would lose in the long run. Sure, they'd inflict a terrible toll on any human but we can adapt.. we attack at day, destroy and bomb out their safety houses and drag them into the sunlight. That together with silver munition (and maybe even silver powder mixed with water to create some kind of anti-vampire "flamethrower" would seal the deal).

God i'm such a nerd

Anyway.. liked the episode and loved to see what happened in the year in between. Some big surprises, some not so big ones.. Tara becoming a cage fighter is fitting, being a lesbian now not so much (i just don't buy it that a person whose been established to be absolutely heterosexual can become gay or at least bi in a matter of a year), Lafayette has become kind of a boring character.. i loved him in season 1+2 but it seems they've run out of steam and ideas what to do with him.

Jason has become a cop and the apparently Santa for a bunch of Were-whatever.. don't know what to make of it but it's a nice character development (though i found him hilarious in the first seasons).

Bill has apparently won the fight and is now King of New Orleans. How do other, physically more powerful and older Vampires deal with that.. especially Eric since Bill is now his superior? Come to think of it the scene near the beginning when he orders Eric to leave makes sense.. at the time i was wondering why Eric wasn't tearing his head off at his disrespect

Hoyt and Jessica have fallen into a rut and Jessica is becoming restless and feels her nature emerge.. this could become a good storyline where we see how and if humans and vampires can live together.

Sookie.. well, the beginning of the episode was as strange as it gets but it was just the beginning of the season and they were laying the groundwork so i don't know what to make of it.. i just know that Eric will get a fistful of glowing mojo in the face if he gets any nearer

It was a good start to the season.. not perfect but it could have been much worse. It will ramp up in the next episodes i'm sure and i'm looking forward to a special development of one character which i learned of by spoiling myself. It'll be interesting how close the show is staying to the books.

Speaking of vampires taking over the world, it seems like there must be a limit to how fast or how many vampires can be created, this is not just in True Blood but in most vampire mythos, otherwise I don't see why vampires don't just start mass producing themselves for an all out war, of course then they might run out of fresh food.

Until approximately a year before the start of True Blood (the books or tv series), they couldn't "come out" ... They had to very strictly control their numbers, so humans were not aware of their existence. Now, they're out of the coffin, but are still controlled in other ways ... various governments and such.

There is a limit to how many can be turned by a vamp, though they haven't ever specified what that limit is.

Of course, that's all about the vampires who submit to the Authority (which is their system of government, with kings/queens, sheriffs, etc). Their custom is to inform a sheriff that they will be visiting the area, and get permission before moving in, if it goes that far.

Even sheriffs have to have permission from above before turning someone. Rogues ... well, they work the way old fashioned vampires do ... they don't care, and they do what they want. But when they encounter Authority vamps, they tend to meet the sun.

There's two episodes available on On Demand as well.

I like this little time jump. Unlike Alias, it makes sense in context.
