True Blood 3x09 - Everything is Broken

The Maryanne story seemed to suffer from poor pacing. I loved Michelle Forbes portrayal of the character, but it was too strung out.

The story...not the Maenad.

The funny thing is that early in this season I thought the show had lost its appeal and was in danger of becoming weighed down by the melodrama and the soap opera elements. I even contemplated bailing on it for a few moments but then the plot started to come together and everything turned into the craziest, wildest rollercoaster ride ever. :)

Ok, the poll didn't attach this time, so ... I gave it 5 stars. Nan was, once again, dangerous. Bill got to Faery, Tommy get nekked, PsychoStalker got killed - again - Jason's the hero, Hoyt and Jessica look like they might be getting back together again, Russell went on the warpath, Tara and LaLa actually had a *moment* something they've never had before (more on that later), Jesus is adorable, LaLa's mommy was a little less crazy, Pam actually cares about Eric, and Eric spilled the beans on everything.

you forgot about Sam pounding the doodoo out of Crystal's dad. Uh ok I hope Ball doesnt end up ruining his character. I liked that he's the most level headed of the supes. :(

Im kinda disappointed at how quicklky Franklin was dispatched. I mean Im not like one of these obsessed Franklin fanatics on IMDB(I wonder if a few of them are just frustrated Sylar fans) but to bring him back for a couple minutes just to have Jason(of all people) blow him to bits like that? Lame... :vulcan:

"...and now, the weather. Tiffany?" :guffaw:

I actually screamed at my TV when Russell killed the news anchor! The look on Nan's face!

That matter-of-fact line from Russell made me laugh! Talk about sabotaging the Vampire League! Russell is my fave new character. He's certainly gone off the deep end, carrying around Talbot's gooey remains with him. I'd say he's the most deliciously evil villain since Ian McShane's Al Swearengen on Deadwood. Fave all-time character is still Lafayette.

^Funny how Lafayette seems to finally be pulling things together while at the same time a 3000 year old Vampire begins to lose his mind.

Another thing ... Hunter? Already? That's a bombshell right there, and may confuse the hell out of people who haven't read *much* later books. This is only season 3, after all.

Yeah, I was surprised to see Hunter show up too. But then the True Blood Universe and the Southern Vampire Mysteries Universe are beginning to diverge more and more so there's no reason that later elements shouldn't show up earlier. I wonder if we're going to see Amelia and Mr. Cataliedes?

I agree, it was a decent story in and of itself, but it was paced very badly and started to bore me.

This season started off slow and felt rather meandering, but it's really started to come together and accelerate its momentum. Definitely a nice change. :techman:

I would say season 3 is much better than season 2 so far. The who maryanne thing last season was a bit much.

Most definitely! Season 2 was mostly not very good at all but it was fun so I stuck with it. This season has had some really stellar episodes.

Can we *not* do book spoilers in these threads? Yes some of the characters might be different on screen but they might not and a significant number of us have never read the books and never plan to.

Awesome, awesome episode!! Loved it! I also don't care about the Crystal story. It's getting annoying and boring. Jason needs to quit fucking crazy girls...I know it's like part of his character but enough already.

I actually really like Jessica and I hope Hoyt ends up back with her. Of course, that Summer chick is a total bunny boiler, we all know it.

I wasn't terribly surprised to see Franklin but I agree with whoever said in their post that he was kind of wasted. He was that funny, entertaining crazy and they could've done more with him.

No Alcide in this episode made me very cranky.

My guess is that Eric is going to become King...just a theory.

The hubby and I were ROLLING when he said that!!!! :guffaw:

I thought it was a great. Franklin went on and on about his immortality in his lovably psychotic way and then Jason just pulled the trigger.

This was my favorite episode of the season. The Russell rant at the end was great. I was lukewarm about his character initially but he's really become very entertaining. I wish he could somehow survive this season but I doubt it.

Death hasn't stopped people from coming back. Gran, Rene, etc.

I'll also weigh in on the Crystal subplot -- it's boring and stupid, IMO. Jason needs to wake up and realize she's yanking his chain. She won't betray her family -- typical for an abuse victim.

Russell needs his own show, frankly! He is deliciously evil and has a unique perspective as a 3,000-year-old vampire. He was "made" 1,000 years before the dawn of the Christian era, so he's seen much of human history, both how much things have changed, and how much they've remained the same, since he was born around 1,000 B.C. Imagine if you could interview someone like that, while wearing a lot of silver, I'd imagine!

You know, if one had lived for more than 3,000 years, one might go a bit crazy, esp. seeing some of the same old stupidity humanity is capable of. Loved how Russell, after he did his evil on-camera deed, said, cynically, "Does that help you decide, America?" I mean, how the hell can 20% of the public not have an opinion about whether or not vampires should have equal rights? Frankly, I'd be in the "no" camp, as we're talking about a predatory immortal species, sorry to say.

Two of my favorite quotes are in this episode:

You look like shit. But I feel great. and the new classic of I wanted to meet the sick fuck who ordered a veggie burger with bacon.

I'm interested in knowing how and why the Great Revelation occurred in the first place. I find it hard to believe there isn't an ulterior motive. Vampires are either in a weaker position than we give them credit for or a much greater position of power than we know. But after thousands of years why make themselves known? Are they simply a low population species surrounded by more and more humans and technology, scared that being found out instead of unveiling themselves would do them more harm? Is the "True Blood" drink all it's cracked up to be or is humanity still on the table on a larger scale than some strippers with boob jobs in the back of Nan's limo?

Which was awesome BTW.

I think it's mostly this. "True Blood" drink made their existence much easier, due to not having to constantly hunt humans for blood.

Yeah, it makes sense. It seems like it's "safer" to be a vampire now that they can live out in the open.
