Tron: Ares

Do we know how he felt about Tron? Was it the something he was embarrassed by and refused to have anything to do with it? But with all of the other sci-fi and fantasy stuff he did over the years, at least some which was probably a lot more embarrassing, I can't imagine he would.
The few times I've seen him talk about he seemed rather baffled by it. But so was everyone else who worked on it. He didn't seem in any way mad about it.

He worked with James Cameron. How bad could Tron have been?

Watched the movie on D+. It was better then I expected. Leto was much more tolerable then he usually is, and Eve was a good character. I wish the actual Grid had more of a presense and more characters, but besides that I was entertained to about the same level as the other two movies (although I've only watched the original and legacy once each). I don't know what a big Tron fan would feel about the movie, but I liked it well enough.
Big Tron fan here. I loved it. It's not without its flaws, of course, but I honestly feel I like it even more after a second viewing. The score and acting were really good and while I feel Gillian Anderson was indeed wasted, she brought some gravitas to the part. The score was fantastic.

When I saw it in the theater, I thought they had the system turned up too much because it was LOUD. But after watching it on D+ this week, I have to say that I think the movie itself is just louder than normal. My TV volume was set quite a bit lower than normal and I heard it just fine.

I haven't seen it yet. I wasnt able to make it to a theater. I heard it wasnt good but fans seemed to like it more than critics. You both have given me hope. I need to watch all three back to back. Looking forward to it.

You could apply this kind of logic to many things...
I ask myself (around 1/4 into the running time) if I'm feeling attachment to the show or not? Is it important that I finish the movie? (It's a bad sign that the question merely arises) If not, then I'll stop and look for something better. Unlike Roger Ebert, I don't have to watch the last reel.

Movies are on hard drive mostly now. Reels are very rare and probably nonexistent at this point. So maybe we need to say watching the last digital byte. Lol

It’s very possible David Warner was too busy when the bonus features for Tron were recorded. He seemed to be constantly working. Beyond big movies and tv he was in a lot of low budget films too. Plus work in theater. I might be wrong but I do not remember him doing bonus features for Time Bandits or Time After Time either. Will have to check. Some actors prefer the work to speak for itself. Baffled by Tron does not surprise me. It’s such an odd niche thing it’s amazing we got three Movies at all.

So I finally saw this

Hoooo boy

Basically I feel I need to rewatch Tron Legacy again to remind me how great Tron can be

Jared Leto is just......not great, like it might be time to say he peaked in Requiem For a Dream

I think they spent all their SFX money on like two scenes (ie when the Reconizer is constructed IRL and starts flying in the city). I admit, those 2 scenes were very good and cool to look at and captured the Tron spirit very well

The rest of the SFX is absolute fucking garbage, like Sharknado level bad

I don't know, maybe Tron Legacy set the bar so high, but everything on the grid felt like a huge letdown in his movie

It was cool to see original Tron in there, nostalgia is easy though

The villain Dillinger was bad. Comically bad. A spoiled little brat

Reznor's music was ok at times, but just didn't come close to what Daft Punk put together. Tough act to follow though

I've got a few more complaints, but mainly my biggest is there's times where this supposed big budget, blockbuster movie just felt like a D grade afterthought

There's this scene at the end where the woman gets a postcard from Jared Leto's character and Jared Leto narrates what he writes in the postcard. The funny thing is he goes on for like 5 minutes, there's no fucking way you can fit all that on a postcard my dude

I guess you hated Traveling Matt's postcards in Fraggle Rock, too.

I finally saw it a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed it for what it was, which was never going to be hugely cerebral, just a fun popcorn flick. (Long time fan of the previous two movies FWIW.) The only downside for me was that the entire plot resolution was blatantly obvious from the beginning, but it was fun to be along for the ride. Grading wise, I'd give it a B-, same as the original (which I first saw on VHS in 1982). Legacy I'm putting at an A.
