Then put it on the streaming service as an original D+ movie. If you don't think it will work at the box office, that's why streaming could be considered a back up plan, or are they worried about another Black Widow kind of situation?

It's weird isn't it that each new Tron release gets further and further from actual technological trends like the original was. One thing about Legacy I was disappointed in was that it never acknowledged the internet. But no, instead it ends up completely ignoring modern computing, which is weird given what the original Tron world was supposed to represent. Personal computing was in its infancy in the 80's when the original movie came out. While the visuals were impressive for its time, I think what was far more impressive was the story being told and the possibilities it introduced.
Cloud computing is such an obvious topic that it could touch upon. But my guess is the story will have something to do with AI being manipulated by a 3rd party and a simulation of the real world. I've had a theory that the world being invaded isn't necessarily our world, but an AI recreation.

We are basically in Blade Runner 2049 territory. Meaning an alternate history where the technology advances made since original movies never really happened.
That is for people above my pay grade. This was the decision they made with the available data.
The new Alien: Earth show had taken a similar route, with the Wayland-Yutani ship in E1 having green-screen computer terminals out of the 70’s, like what Nostromo had.

I watched The 13th Floor a little while back, it was pretty good.
Yeah, even though I'm a huge fan of the first two, I just can't work up the kind of enthusiasm for this that I usually can for a new sequel. On the other hand, I am very excited for Disney's other sequel coming out later this year.

Definitely is, and I actually feel like it's one of my favourite of those types of movies being made during the whole VR craze of the 90's. The reason I thought I was the only one to have seen it was that it had very little buzz at the time. Nobody I knew was talking about it.
Everyone was too busy slobbering on The Matrix to talk about The Thirteenth Floor.
That's true. But I wonder how different things would have been had 13th Floor came out way before The Matrix, or the latter had been delayed.

I must have seen the picture three times, because I do have the DVD. And I missed it every time. Thanks. And actually glad it's the prologue, because that means I don't have to wade through a 2 hour and six minute movie (and the trailers on the DVD) that I found vastly inferior to the original in order to see it, when I need to do some serious checkbook maintenance, and some unexpected CD editing.
