@Tango, thank you so much for this info! When Laura Cynthia Chambers first started the thread, I stared at that book spine (both pictures) for hours trying to figure it! I don't know Italian or opera, so I was just stumped. Now I can sleep tonight
@FederationHistorian should get most of the credit for identifying “Cattaneo”. I just cleaned up some of the details. But you are welcome - I enjoy book sleuthing.

The idea of the odd books coming from someone else...what if Trip's late, beloved sister Elizabeth loved opera, and gave him that book to widen his horizons? ...Or his parents sent him that book after she passed, as a memento.
In a fanfiction story I have Trip telling T'Pol that Elizabeth, an architect, designed a library. So a book from Liz to Trip makes sense to me.

Was it a redesigned replacement for an older building? In thanks for her work, she might have been given the first crack at some old books that were taken out of circulation following an inventory to prep for the move to the new building. She took a box home and sent him some he might like.
The book isn't about "opera", the musical thing. It's "opere", an Italian word meaning "the collected works"

I had to zoom on the image in a lot to figure it out myself.
The History of American Indian book is probably there because it's written by someone called "LaFarge" and someone had a sense of humour about it.
The old paper book might be the Trekverses equivalent of LPs, something that just refuses to die out.

The American Indian one is the only one that really makes sense to me, could see Trip having books of western photography or something. The others don't seem very in character, probably just randomly selected props.

I have a few friends who do set work for productions. The set designer usually has the great, grand concept, and it's up to the set dec team to pull it off. Whatever isn't manufactured or loaned out by various suppliers usually has a backstory in a local thrift store or someone's great aunt's basement. Knowing that, trying to retcon background props into a character's story arc gets even more interesting, IMO.
