Trip of a Lifetime...

MANT!

Vice Admiral
Admiral
On Wednesday morning, Dear Wife and I will board a United flight for our trip of a lifetime..

Israel..specifically the Revered Places in Christianity, As a History buff and fairly religious man, I've wanted to go there for many years.. So it's 10 days of exploration..( Indiana Jones style? Nahh it's a guided tour)

I wish it was on the following sky-liner..

But sadly, I'm stuck with today's average 595 MPH wide body airliner..So it's a LONG trip...

Will keep you all informed..as we have Internet access in each Hotel.. (Dear Wife wanted no part of my thoughts of camping near archaeological diggings).

Has anyone else gone on their "Trip of a Lifetime" and if so where?

I love that your Trip of a Lifetime is listed directly below the Bizarre Journey of a Macbook Air.

I traveled w/ a peace group to Russia, Estonia and Lithuania when they were still part of the USSR (plus a couple days in Poland). The entire trip was exciting and fascinating, but Russia specifically was my trip of a lifetime; my grandparents had emigrated from there in 1917.

Have a wonderful time and be safe.

^ Now it's below the I Feel Lost thread...

Have a great trip Goldbug, I'll enjoy reading about your adventures!

That sounds wonderful! Hope you'll share some of your photos here.

My trip of a lifetime has to be my camping safari in the Masai Mara/Serengeti, which I believe is now listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. I witnessed, among other things, the massive annual migration of the white bearded wildebeest - which involves a life and death crossing of a river which many don't survive. I was also lucky enough to come across a lone black rhinoceros of which there are only a handful remaining in the wild due to rampant poaching. I saw a part of nature which is fast disappearing. I am very glad I did it.

I can understand that your wife doesn't want to camp! I did ask myself in the evenings what possessed me - and the lodges did look very appealing at some moments. Still, that would have meant we would not have lived among the Masai and chatted over a camp fire after dinner, so there were some compensations to roughing it. It all depends what you feel you can take I suppose.

Have a great time!

My wife and I are travel fanatics. We say that have a disease, chronic travel itch. So, we live a modest life style and save up for travel. We travel abroad a minimum of once per year but it's generally more often than that.

We been all over Europe, Central and South America, Egypt, India, Nepal, and variety of other places. So, we've had a variety of trips of a lifetime.

As much as we've traveled, it feels like we've barely made a dent in the places that we want to go!

Officer, you and I had discussed safaris last year. We almost went this year, actually had reservations for October, but had to cancel due to conflicts. We are definitely going though. Your description of it sounded wonderful. Probably next year or 2.

^ Sorry to hear your trip fell through. On the plus side, I'm sure you'll find some good deals in the current climate. Will keep my fingers crossed for you. :D

On the plus side, our daughter will be a bit older so she'll probably remember and appreciate it a bit more when we do go. We're definitely going, so we're not too dissappointed that we're not going this year. :)

^ Something fabulous to look forward to - always welcome when getting through the winter months. Your daughter is a lucky girl. My sister was 3 when she went, and she barely remembers now, although she really wishes she did. Hope all goes smoothly the next time.

My journey through Mexico. It was about 1,600 mile, IIRC, and took me through deserts and rain forests.

I college, I participated in the Junior Year Abroad Program. I attended Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

During school breaks I went to Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, and Hobart, as well as many small towns around Victoria and New South Wales.

I was there for 10 months, and had the most epic time of my life.

:techman:

I visited Jerusalem several years ago. I remember seeing the Dome of the Rock for the first time rising out of the city. Quite magnificent!

Have a great time, Goldbug! It sounds like fun.

I've had some fun traveling, but I don't think any of them are trips of a lifetime.

Just wrapped up one of hopefully many trips of a lifetime, as part of my honeymoon. :)

Did a 2 week cruise in the Med, saw Rome, Pompeii, Athens, Rhodes, Ephesus, Egypt, and Sicily. Great time!

^ That's awesome--I did a shorter version of that last year (Venice to Athens via lots of other cool place). I'd love to see more.

For many people, a trip out of the country is.

What is your definition of "trip of a lifetime" anyway?

I lived in Paris when I was in college, and I have plans to go to Tokyo next October and expecting that to be my next great cultural mindfuck. I have been to Europe numerous times, but the prospect of going to East Asia for the first time is exciting me more than the prospect of Europe did.

Shalom

We are in Tiberia, we saw many ruins from Caesaria , and Meggido...(Armageddon)

strange to see places we've read about.. pics will come upon our return..

Transmission concluded..
