TRIGGER WARNING! Midnight's Edge Youtube Roundtable Review of STD

No thanks.

What? They didn't like it? A lot of people didn't like it. I quit watching it after 10 minutes or so because everything they said had already been said in here. I did like the one guy's comment where he said the Klingons sounded like they had a sandwich in their mouths.

Probably stole most of their talking points from here.

You know who also sound like that. The Klingons in TMP. Honestly these dimwits don't think and don't do some basic research.

Hey, the first two hours weren't perfect...but they are far from the unmitigated and heinous disaster websites like this would have you believe.

What are you talking about. People who complain about the Klingons in STD should watch TMP. Yeah it was bad.

I don't know. I thought I knew what I was talking about. But...apparently I didn't.

Everything since season 4 of Enterprise? Sure. I can agree with that. Before that, there was some original thought. It’d be nice to get back to that.
Yeah I especially like TNG Season 2 where they introduced the WHOLLY original Female Doctor Pulaski.
I mean we NEVER BEFORE in Star Trek had a character who:
- Verbally sparred with the emotionless and logical character of the show
- Proclaimed them self as: "An old Country Doctor."
- Feared use of the Transporter because she thought it would scatter her atoms halfway across the Galaxy.
^^^
Yep, we NEVER saw any character like that 22 years prior on TOS...ever...oh, wait... ;)

I actually liked Dr. Pulaski :(

Chang also sounded like that, single broken syllables, in his all-Klingon language scene (briefly, before it switched to English).

I think you missed the “some” in “some original thought.” I never said there wasn’t moments of re-use. With 725+ adventures, you’re damned right there will be.

But yes, Pulaski? Yeah, she was pretty blatant.

If you would like to listen to a bunch of guys spend almost an hour excessively moaning about the new Star Trek series, only to conclude that they should have hired Alec Peters to produce it, then this is the video for you! :cardie:

Just watching the intro to the video is enough for me. “Is this really Star Trek or does The Orville now hold that honor?” You can prefer Orville over Disco all you want, but only one show is Star Trek. You can argue the merits of Disco all you want but it is Star Trek. You can say it’s bad Star Trek but it is Star Trek. Orville is a nice tribute. Just like Prelude to Axanar was.

Neither is Star Trek.

This is the first I've heard of these folk, so nothing to hate. They do remind me of Trekyards, though; bombastic twerps who love to hear their own heads rattle. Perfect for YouTube.
I quite like Trekyards in small doses. The difference between them and Midnight's Edge is that they do have relationships with industry professionals who from time to time will come on their show. Midnight's Edge just claims to have relationships with industry professionals. Note they they never once cite their source.

I guess I’m a bit of a glutton for punishment, but a little before 9 minutes into the video, one of the round table literally starts screaming about events in the show. If this doesn’t show the professionalism of these people? Yeah. They need to get over themselves.

EDITED TO ADD: Yeah, nope. Can’t listen to the whole thing. It just continues my biggest pet peeve about Star Trek fans — that we can be a bunch of entitled whiny fanboys. I listened to about half of it and while I agree some things were valid that they brought up, much of it really felt like, “It’s not the Star Trek *I* wanted. So it’s shit.” No thanks.

I'd think there was as much original thought in the last three films and the first few episodes of Discovery as most of Trek.

TOS was repeating itself in its second season, TMP was a mesh of four TOS episodes (with a style taken from one film and an ending ripped from another), TNG and Voyager relied on oft-repeated tropes...

Welcome to about 80% of Trek fandom, unfortunately.

Honestly, this WASN'T the Trek I wanted either. But I concede that my honest natural reaction was that I was entertained and liked the characters.

So...I'm a fan until otherwise given reason not to be.

I’m absolutely with you. Not the Trek I wanted either. And it was far from perfect. There were some major issues I had with the first two episodes: pacing, dialogue, some logic issues. But I’m intrigued with the way the pilot left things. I’m hopeful it will pick up from here.

Good way of looking at it.

I'd say that my head questioned elements of it...but my heart LOVED it.

And when it comes to entertainment, my heart overrules my head by about 5-to-1. I use my head enough during the work day. When I watch Trek...I don't need to be nitpicking and analytical.
