Tribbles?

I have had this hunch for a long time that Cumberbatch is playing Arne Darvin.

It's a bit left field but it could also explain why their initial instinct was to employ latino actors...?
Is Charlie Brill Latino?
He seems very "New York Jewish" to me...
Brill is indeed Jewish and was born in Brooklyn - far more likely descended from some Central European Ashkenazim named Brillstein than to have any Latino ancestry (but that's me guessing.)

Yes, lol, I was referring to the character's complexion rather than the ethnicity of the original actor. And I agree that his apparent ethnicity was of little importance compared to Khan.

Garth is still my number one choice but Darvin is an interesting second option. I don't think tribbles will feature at all but he might well make a passing appearance in the comic on one of the klingon ships if we watch carefully...

My money is on a Wrath of Khan/Trouble with Tribbles combination where Khan discovers the voracious nature of the tribbles and begins bombing habitable planets with them, resulting in the rapid desolation of their ecologies, rendering them uninhabitable.

Bit of a new twist on the title "Space Seed" eh?

I would really hope it's a cameo and the movie isn't "about" tribbles.
I don't know...
I think Arne Darvin could be an interesting character if done well. A story with with Darvin as a Klingon spy who has infiltrated Starfleet disguised as a human could have nothing whatsoever to do with tribbles.

Again, I'm not hoping for this, but it wouldn't automatically be a bad idea, either.

There is the fact that Noel Clarke's character is a family man who lives on a colony world (I think that's what he is). Perhaps his colony is Sherman's Planet?

Alternatively we could have Cyrano Jones give Kirk and company the tribbles and Klingons, who are after him to kill the tribbles, show up wanting to execute them all.

Then the Federation and the Klingon Empire could fight "The Great Tribble War!"

Oooh, Sherman's Plant? Maybe Mr. Peabody will be the Villain...what...don't look at me like that :alienblush:

Hold on. Mr. Peabody implies involvement of the Wayback Machine. Go there and we'll be facing open revolt from the "We Hate Temporal Shenanigans" contingent.

An idea similar to this is explored in the third Myriad Universes novel. That is they explore how the Klingons manipulation of K-7 and Sherman's Planet could have played out if there were no Cyrano Jones or Tribbles on hand to interfere. It's pretty good too.

Hmmm. Mr. Peabody being the overseer of a time portal...
...Perhaps Mr. Peabody would be one of Harlan Ellison's "Guardians of Forever" (although his Guardians were nine feet tall -- and not dogs).
