Triangular Pillows

troisboobs

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Of all the things I dislike about DS9, this gets me the most.

:cardie: Cardassians or Starfleet or whoever this may concern:

Really? Why are triangular pillows so much better (since it is the future afterall) than regular pillows? Are they somehow special or better? I dont think so, and wouldn't in a million years.

I know that the station used to be cardassian, and they are cardassian beds, but thats no excuse why you couldn't replicate a normal square pillow. Besides, its not like your heads are different or something.

I just can't imagine a triangular pillow being comfortable at all. Theres not as much mass, so if your head rolls around then you are out of pillow. You would pretty much have to be flat on your back to be comfortable with it. Or perhapts on your stomach, but even then it just wouldn't be nearly as good. I would like an explanation for this when you get a chance.

Well, when they decided to copy DS9 from Babylon 5, they liked the Mimbari triangular pillows so much they decided to jack them ;)

It's just another one of Star Trek's silly attempts to look futuristic by coming up with a rather wacky variation on an every day item...like the shapes of their drinking glasses and bottles. One of the funniest to me was the shiny blankets and pajamas (as seen in "Night Terrors"). :)

^ yeah, I definitely agree there. They are trying to make us believe its some amazingly comfortable and warm futuristic material or something.

The beds on DS9 look very uncomfortable, IMO: not only do they have these triangular pillows, but they also have that weird bright light thingie just above their heades.

Throughout all 7 seasons of DS9, not once did I ever think about or have any particular thoughts on the pillows. And personally, this is the kind of minutiae that doesn't bother me anyway.

Triangles are the future folks. Just remember that when the shit comes down, you'll need your triangles...

I agree, they looked terribly uncomfortable. But I think they also looked somewhat futuristic. So they get a thumbs-up from me. :techman:

^ but why does space have to be so uncomfortable looking? If I had to live on a space station I'd want a big nest full of fluffy down blankets and square pillows :D

That light panel always made me wonder--but then again, I wonder if there's a way to order it to dim itself or switch off.

Very little of the furniture in any of the 'Star Trek' series looked particularly comfortable.
