Trials and Tribble-ations

I like it a lot. It's not very serious, but who cares? A nice, colorful, lightweight time travel story. And I thought the mixture of new and old footage was quite well done on the limited time and budget of a TV series.

The Voyager episode wasn't bad, it could have better if they hadn't killed off Valtane after the movie showed him alive, and perhaps better defined the creature that caused the problem. Seeing Captain Sulu again, sweeettt!!!!

One of the best.

The VOY tribute with Sulu could have been equally as good had the writers and producers taken the same amount of care as the DS9 crew.

That wasn't the only continuity problem. If I remember right, he VOY episode had Kirk at Rura Pente mere days after Praxis exploded, when in the movie it was at least several months later.

Four things I loved about "T and T"....

1. Dax's attraction to Spock was a nice allusion to Leonard Nimoy's status as a sex symbol in the 60's

2. Sisko and Kirk share a scene -- BAD ASS!!

3. Bashir meeting the female crew member and wondering if he may become his own ancestor.

4. Worf squirming over the Klingon's physical evolution over the years. "We do NOT discuss it with outsiders!"

Another cute touch was the portrayal of the Federation Department of Temporal Investigations agents as stuffy, humorless bureaucrats. Nice bit of satire, that.

Also, their disagreement over how many Enterprises there had been.

What exactly was the source of that disagreement? Was it over whether or not they were counting the Enterprise-E? I know DS9 episodes are notoriously hard to pin down chronologically, but do we have any idea if the E was built by the time "T&T" took place?

At the time it was a reference to the not yet seen Ent-E. However, since the creation of Archers Enterprise after the episode aired, it could be read as including the NX-01 rather than 1701-E.

Aha. I had not released that we hadn't actually seen the E yet. Should've thought of that. Details, details...

I agree, though, in hindsight it works well as referring to Archer's Enterprise. Thank you for clearing up that mystery for me! :bolian:

I've always had mixed feelings. The production was really nice visually, but the story was... well, just weak. They could have done better on that aspect, and I think the whole Klingon issue could have been ignored as well.
