Tremors

If a Tremors V does go forward, I hope they don't make the mistake of trying to shoehorn in some new stage of the "Graboid Life-cycle", because it's pretty much over with.

Agreed. I also hope they don't go the Gremlins 2 route and have them mutate or something.

^I think thats where the series and the MixMaster stuff was going, although neither the tagged Shriekers or El Blanco seemed to be affected by it.

You know, I'm going to say the first movie is almost "Jaws like" in its execution and use of the "graboids." Loook at the compaissons, we don't see a graboid until the scene where one chases Val and Earl into the concrete ravine, before that we only see the snake tounges. I liken this to only seeing Jaws' dorsal fin up until the scene on the Orca when Brody causes Jaws to pop out while chumming the water.

Now, when we first see the graboid there less marvel and wonder in the scene and in the music than in Tremors, but Tremors, much like Jaws, does a good job of making the effects of the graboids cause the "scare" and tension rather than the creature itself.

Like in Jaws the theme mostly serves as Jaws' presence and the effects of him doing things, like ramming the boat, In Tremors the "prsence" of the graboid isn't well done in music (there's no real "Graboid Theme" in the movie when one is near) but we usually get a nice treatment of its effects on the earth. This is done by the camera running along the ground at a low level, the ground rising and falling, and the boardwalk planks rolling behing Val and Rohnda.

All and all, after watching it again tonight, I continue to be impressed with how well this movie pulls off the scares, the effects of the graboids, the characters, the way the characters reason their way through the problems and the survivalist characters (The Gummers) are a hoot. It's really too bad this movie never got a "genuine" theater-released sequel as it really is a cult classic.

I was at Comic-Con and got to speak with S.S. Wilson (writer/producer of the Tremors franchise). He said that they have a script for Tremors 5 but, currently, there are no plans to produce it.

I love everything Tremors from the movies to the show to the prequel movie (Which was a DTV movie). I never heard of the 5th movie actually going anywhere, it's probably liek Ghostbusters 3.

If I remember correctly, the third was basically the pilot for the forgettable series. It's no wonder most people didn't like it.

I like the series. It did have diminishing returns but I thought the second was still quite good. The third, not so much and the fourth I utterly despise. I didn't care much for the series either. If they do a fifth movie I'll definitely watch it in some capacity but I wouldn't buy it unless it's good.
