This movie is going to be the most expensive 2-hours of ENT sequel ever.
The only thing giving me any form of hope for this movie is the casting job being done... all the actors who have been confirmed so far are awesome, with the exception of the guy they chose for Chekov... OMG... they could have done SO, SO, much better. But the Uhura choice is spot-on, and my favorite yet. If they can keep with using people who are not yet mega-superstars, it'll be cool.
I'm not holding out any hope whatsoever in regards to the story... chances are, we'll get something that follows in the tradition of canon-violating, spitting on the franchise Enterprise writing. ESPECIALLY is Romulans and time are involved... because as we can recall, the "Zordon" alien who was always talking to Silik the Suliban in ENT was clearly a Romulan from the future... this movie will be nothing but an ENT sequel, with some TOS characters thrown in.
As for the U.S.S. Enterprise herself... lol... you hardcore TOS fans are gonna likely shit your pants in rage. Be FULLY prepared to see Gabe's reimagined Enterprise on the big screen... or something nearly idential to it. If you believe anything else, you're setting yourself up for a major disappointment. There is no way the studio will keep the 1701 the way she was, for a variety of reasons.
One, this is the big screen, and everyone will be gaga to play with the look of the old ship for the feature.
Two, this is a TOS prequel, so they'll be able to "justify" any changes they make as part of an older design.
Three, they'll want a "fresh" approach to Trek, and in the DVD bonus features some Paramount tool will come on the screen and patronize us all, by uttering something along the lines of:
"We thought that after over 40 years of Star Trek, it'd be fun to try something fresh and new, and we think it worked well, and we think that the fans will love it."
Four, TBTB know we want to see the old gal in her original glory. Too bad... they don't care what we want.
Even though I'm REALLY skeptical about this film to say the least, it's morbid curiosity that will drive me to see it. I have to maintain an open mind, because when "Batman Begins" was advertised, I was adamant that it would suck bigtime... that was a mistake... after seeing it, it instantly became my favorite superhero movie of all time.
