TrekXI Enterprise - Version 5

Thanks guys. Let's not descend into the same likes/dislikes again. I think Everyone in here knows I like it, and no one's mind is going to change at this point. :)

Your renders are great! I despise that version of the Enterprise with a passion, but your renders are definitely good; I like the use of textures there as well.

Whether the new Enterprise is ugly or not is a matter of personal preference. This point has been debated AD NAUSEUM in ***NUMEROUS*** other threads and is ultimately an issue between the individual observer and JJ Abrams...

The actual point of THIS thread is how well MadMan's renders look like the new Enterprise. I for one think they EXTREMELY look like the new Enterprise...

Outstanding job, MadMan...

The new lighting looks great. I loved the first wallpaper image, but when I clicked all the other image links, it said that they were taken down from photobucket? Wish I could have seen the others.

Hadn't seen you post for awhile, glad you're back. Mercy, nice work as always. The lighting and glow effects are particularly nice. Love your planet/spacescapes too.

I'm glad you like it. :)

The new nacelles look really good from some angles, and just weird from others. I guess most shapes are like that. :)

I never did understand the saucer undercut, it makes no sense to me. The undercut I do like is the one on the underside of the secondary hull, very interesting. The new nacelles are a bit of a sop to modern swoopy designs, the rear is a little too over-designed but I love the new bussards. Lovely model of an interesing ship.

I agree about the rear of the secondary hull.... The shape is WAY too complicated, and the pylons are integrated into the hull too much. Of course, the main reason I feel that way is because I can't build it right. :)

Nacelles are too big in the front and too close together.

The pylons for the nacelles connect far too forward on the nacelles. The connecting point should be further back, but ahead of midway.

The undercut on the secondary hull is too far forward. The cut should start further back, about where the back point of the connecting dorsal meets the secondary hull.

If those things were fixed, I'd like this new ship a lot better.

But, if you did all that, the profile would look too much like the original. :)

About the nacelles, am I the only one that sees this every time I look at them?:

I've thought the same myself, but I was actually thinking of a 57 Chevy truck... my dad used to have one of those when I was a kid. :)

I'm thinking "Version 6" is going to be so good that he could scatter screen caps of the movie with his images and no one would be able to tell the difference.

Funny you should put that picture up. I had put together a list of things I would have liked to see on the NuEnterprise when we heard that Pike was the Captain and had little knowledge of the story line, other than the inclusion of Nero and that the Enterprise was built on the ground. With Pike as Captain, I took this to mean that the movie started before Kirk took command, there would be a major battle and we would se the regular TOS Enterprise coming out of drydock after a repair and refit from the final battle. Of course I was also hoping to see Gary Mitchell in the movie.

My idea was that the NuEnterprise should take its design heritage from the 1950's, since the TOS Enterprise was a product of the 1960's. The '57 Chevy Bel Air being my favorite car of teh era, I used that as my starting point.

(1) Some of the ideas included changing out the "handle bars" topside aft on the nacelles with something that looked like the fins.

(2) Changing the front of the nacelles to look like the the healights (and red, not blue) with the "chrome bullets" on the hood acting as the spikes.

There were other ideas, but those 2 come to mind.
