TREK73: The original Star Trek combat simulator is back...

Prepare to beam back to the dawn of mainframe gaming! I’ve just relaunched TREK73, the legendary 1973 space combat simulator originally coded in HP2000 BASIC, completely rebuilt from the ground up as a modern, browser-ready PHP web application.

This faithful conversion preserves the authentic, hardcore tactical starship battles of the original—letting you balance warp power, command phaser banks, and outmaneuver enemy cruisers—while making it instantly accessible for today's commanders.

Take the center seat and test your tactical prowess against the original 1970s AI logic today:

Access the game here: TREK73

Enjoy!

Paging @Cube1701 ...

I just played it and got destroyed twice. Why are the commanders of the enemy ships the wrong species?
The original 1973 code took as much information from the original series as possible. Since there weren't many named alien commanders, they took a random approach. Each time you play, you are randomly pitted against a random enemy and random commander.

I remember playing this game as a kid, having almost no idea what I was doing.

...looking at the manual now makes me think I might still have no idea what I was doing. :p
