Trek XI over budget?

darkwing_duck1

Vice Admiral
In the same article as the rumor about yet ANOTHER move back in release date for the film (linked to in the other thread), comes the tidbit of info that word has it that the movie is already over budget.

Could it be they are applying the costs of the two/three abandoned projects that came before the Adams pitch against the film, as happened to TMP? If so, this could make things MUCH harder for a film already sure to struggle to meet the big-time expectations of the brass...

I doubt the Jendrenson (sp?) script attempt cost all that much. I don't see this having anything to do with this alleged problem.

I agree, so I wonder where the cost run-overs have occured? From what I heard, they cancelled the location shoot in Iceland, so that right there should've saved some money.

Unless J.J. really IS building a physical, full-scale Enterprise, ala James Cameron with Titanic.

Guys, it's just a rumor. Abrams is a well-known stickler for bringing his projects in at or under budget, especially when there are potential sequels on the line. He said something to that effect in one of his interviews, that not exceeding the film's budget was critical to convincing Paramount that Trek was still a bankable franchise. I'm just not gonna get worked up over this until I hear official confirmation, bearing in mind that we still have no official confirmation of what the budget actually is, so I'm not holding my breath.

Now, it could be that the studio execs have increased the film's budget along with their decision to move it to a more competitive release date. Whether or not that qualifies as "over budget" is a matter of interpretation.

You wanna see a film that was over budget? Look at Superman Returns. Sure, there were previous attempted projects folded into that, but by this point in production (near end of principal photography) it was already well known that SR was crazy over budget. So far with Trek XI all we have is a single factually questionable article.

I wouldn't worry about it. J.J. knows what he's doing.

Actually, that was trhe same situation for TMP back in 1979; as Paramoun folded the aborted 'Phase II' costs into the budget accounting for Star Trek:TMP

As for the OP's question, I'm sure we'll hear about it, if it IS in fact over-budget.

Those darn rumours...

The Internet was founded on rumours

Fact and opinion are wound together so tight I find it almost impossible to believe anything anymore...

Who cares? It's not our money. Besides, there is most likely a 99% chance that the story that started this rumor has nothing to do with reality.

Plus, Star Wars made a boatload of money and in coattail riding tradition, Paramnount had to have their own space movie.

Well, that will explain the whole "Enterprise built on Earth", wouldn't it?

I doubt JJ would let his Trek film go over budget. He's got such a large budget to play with there really isn't any reason to go over.

About 130 million dollars.

Sounds about right, heard it was somewhere from 100 mill to 150 mill, definatly the most expencive Trek film to date.

Well, unless you adjust the cost of TMP in today's dollars, then you see that there's a ways to go still, eh ?
