I have seen this film printed in a magazine this month not just as "Star Trek XI" but as "Star Trek: The Future Begins"

imdb.com also has these:
aka "Star Trek: The Future Begins" - Malaysia (English title)
aka "Star Trek Zero" - USA (working title)
aka "Star Trek: The IMAX Experience" - USA (IMAX version)

When this TrekBBS subforum gets merged under Star Trek Movies subforum or retitled (as not original prime universe) I would suggest one of the above.
Maybe we should do this as a poll instead?

I'm still surprised no one seems to see the logic in renaming this forum: Star Trek (2009)

Because most people forget what year a film actually came out. Not everyone is very good with dates and memory.
Ask high school history teachers everywhere...

Star Trek XI

Not very elegant sounding...but face it. That's what it really is.

I'm fine with Star Trek XI.

The Future Begins just makes me think of the uber-lame titles they used for the X-Files movies.

STAR TREK Timeline Two: Temporal Boogaloo

Might have worked. On enough weed.

I call the movie Star Trek - fuck any "official" name.

However, for purposes of TrekBBS titles Star Trek XI is probably best - it might confuse some people, but we have to assume that anyone who'd bother to register here is probably paying enough attention to the Franchise to get these things straight.

Who, exactly...? It's pretty straightforward. It's the eleventh Star Trek movie. Star Trek XI.

Outside of Star Trek fandom, possibly lots of people. Not only is there no numeral in the film's title, but there have not been numerals attached to the previous four Trek films. It is therefore overwhelmingly likely that most human beings do not know that there have been ten previous films nor that this one is the eleventh.

It's only "straightforward" if you give a damn. Most people don't.

Interestingly, most of the movie's posters make "The Future Begins" look somewhat like a subtitle.

It's often difficult for persons to remember film numbers, as much as the years of their release. (What Bond film number was You Only Live Twice?) Calling the newest movie Star Trek isn't particularly helpful, either. I think I favor The Future Begins, which would fully be: Star Trek XI: The Future Begins.

Thus, the series:

Star Trek I: The Motion Picture
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek III: The Search For Spock
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek VII: Generations
Star Trek VIII: First Contact
Star Trek IX: Insurrection
Star Trek X: Nemesis
Star Trek XI: The Future Begins

The title was "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", not "Star Trek I: The Motion Picture".

Sorry, that was my childhood impression speaking. I was born in 1984, so The Motion Picture was Star Trek I to me for most of my life (I didn't call it The Motion Picture until I started posting here; I don't think I even knew it was the title until sometime in the mid-90s).
