Trek XI News from Cherry Hill Convention

As reported on TrekToday.com Here and also TrekMovie.com and TrekWeb.com. If you want to read my original post, it's here and just for time I'll list the quickie bits...

• Kirk isn't in XI due to his death in Generations
• Shatner's upcoming Academy novel featuring Kirk meeting Spock has disclaimer which indicates we will see such likely in the film
• Nimoy coy on deal, but indicating the ComicCon panel will answer "all our questions"

I do have issue with one point however.

Nimoy confirmed the theory of why Shatner is not in Trek XI, answering Shatner's question "Why am I not in it?" by asking Shatner, "What happened to Kirk in Star Trek 7?" to which Shatner of course answered, "They killed Captain Kirk" to which Nimoy eluded "There you go" which prompted Shatner to point out to Nimoy, "You died and you came back!" - confirming the theory that Nimoy's part will be Spock in the 24th Century, post-Generations time - though whether post Nemesis is still unknown.

I'm not sure this confirms that Nimoy will play Spock in the 24th Century. He came back to life in TSFS. I know he looks physically older, but that really doesnt matter. They could just as easily set it in the 23rd century. I'd be suprised if they didnt just keep it vague.

If it ends up being a voiceover it wont matter at all.

not my vid but a nice moment. I do not believe in that vid Nimoy is saying what century his spock will be, or why Shatner is not in it. He may just be saying 'you got to be in one movie without me, now it is my turn'

that being said I imagine that the reasons shatner is not in the film is because he could not be as easily worked into the script and due to his requirements he would end up overshadowing the core story they wanted to tell.

Nimoy is teasing about the "you did one without me" - if you listen to what he said, he's answering Shatner's "why aren't I in it?" by saying "the story of Star Trek 7 - Kirk died" and Shatner even replies of how Spock came back, so why not Kirk. If this was to take place at any other time but after Kirk's death in Generations, not just his disappearance on the E-B, but after Malcolm McDowell's Soran shot him, I doubt Nimoy would have given such a specific reason. He would have just kept with the "you did one without me" teasing.

That is pretty much what I got from it. I really have this image in my head of Spock standing at Kirk's cairn remiencing about his old friend shocked at losing him twice once on the Enterprise B and here again reading recently unclassified Logs from the Enterprise D.

Perhaps Nimoy's appearance will come as Spock is visiting Kirk's grave on Veridian III (ala the trailer that the Bring Back Kirk people did)?

The farther away from Bring Back Kirk, the better...

^ Yea, looks a lot better because of that too, looks somewhat younger then his actual age.

Or course the doctors possibly told him to loose it 'cause at his age extra weight can't be good for his health.
