Trek-XI is gonna flop f***** big!

For the general public if Trek doesn't even exist, isn't it in Paramount's best interest to get the hype going from now on? If Watchmen, T4 and Wolverine can do so, why not ST?

Well, I hang around a lot of science fiction media places, and see a lot of movie trailers. So far I've seen nothing of "Watchmen" - only that I read in "Starlog" a few years ago it was about to be made at last, and a friend bought a reprint of the graphic novel last week to bone up on what was coming.

I had no idea there were plans for another "Terminator" - isn't Arnie too busy for that one?

And I know "Wolverine" has been lensing but only because some of it was filmed right here in Sydney, and Hugh Jackman tends to talk about his various projects on the local chat shows.

However, of the movies you mention, so far ST XI is the film I know most about. I saw a Starfleet insignia poster - with blue and gold uniform colours on it - all over the place. Any member of the general public who went to "Cloverfield" saw a great teaser trailer - it's a new ST movie and it's got that guy from "Heroes" in it, and JJ Abrams of "Lost" is directing, and Nimoy's coming out of retirement for it, and Shatner's complaining about not being in it while promoting his new autobiography - and those four new posters are all over the www and in "Entertainment Weekly" magazine.

The movie's 9 months away and some people are wringing their hands expecting the movie to fail. Jeez, some fans are such downers and worry warts. Just relax. There'll be a nice new trailer before the year's out and mucho publicity in the months to follow prior to the movie. Let's try to remain positive.

Because the people making the movie have arranged with Paramount to promote it differently than is being done with those other films. We'll see sooner or later whether that was the right choice, but it's their gig.
Sure it is. And it is going to come back to bite them in the ass. Star Trek needs all the boost it can get to get the momentum going. being so secretive won't be good for it.

[mod harrumph]Meanwhile, Temis' direct but perhaps less-than-elegant rebuttal to a somewhat hyperbolic slice of your originating post does not make it okay for you to call her a dumbass. You might think it so (and there is no rule against that) but, in the future, kindly find another way of getting your point across textually. [/mod harrumph][/quote]
I called it as I saw it. Where is the harm done exactly?

Then you don't hang around any good science fiction media places. If you did, you'd know about Watchmen. Its not as popular as the Justice League or not as well known, but it has its presence. The trailer in front of TDK got quite a few raves and people were whispering they wanted to see it.

It was all over the news, radio and websites when Christian Bale signed on for it. The trailer heading got quite a lot of cheering for the three different showings I went for TDK.
And I know "Wolverine" has been lensing but only because some of it was filmed right here in Sydney, and Hugh Jackman tends to talk about his various projects on the local chat shows.
Wolverine got its posters rolling out way before it even started lensing.
However, of the movies you mention, so far ST XI is the film I know most about. I saw a Starfleet insignia poster - with blue and gold uniform colours on it - all over the place.
Perhaps because you hang around in TBBS a lot? Or Trekmovie?
Any member of the general public who went to "Cloverfield" saw a great teaser trailer
I went to two different showings for Cloverfield. Both the times the audience groaned, laughed or poked fun at it. "Another one?" "It's gonna suck" "Is this Star Wars?" were the comments I heard in the theaters. It was embarassing.

If you read my original post you'd know I don't want it to fail and hence my concern that there is no pre-hyped buzz going for this movie.
Jeez, some fans are such downers and worry warts.
Maybe because we have r/l experience and don't whack off in front of the PC all day long?
Let's try to remain positive.
After the failures of INS, NEM and ENT, it is hard to remain positive. I am not saying the movie will be bad, but if people don't know the movie exists, when are they going to see it?

Please stop with the mexican hat thing, it stopped being funny about three weeks ago.
No it didn't. :techman:

I agree with 22 Stars.

But with trek XI ... it's way too early.

I typically don't post in this forum, and this thread is probably too long as is and I'm a little late, but I have a question. Why is it too early for Star Trek and not too early for films like Watchmen and Terminator Salvation to come out with trailers? Fans aren't ready for Star Trek XI? Really? Seems like no one cares and they need to know that Star Trek is actually coming back, at least the normal public.

And I agree with 22stars about the Sombraro thing. I really did stop being funny about a week after it started, but who am I to mess with you guys having a bit of fun. :)

I know exactly what "Watchmen" is. If there was a trailer for it before "The Dark Knight" then it made no impression on me.

It was all over the news, radio and websites when Christian Bale signed on for it. The trailer heading got quite a lot of cheering for the three different showings I went for TDK.
Well again, if there's a T4 coming I guess I was buying my choc top ice cream from the little cart at the time.

Perhaps because you hang around in TBBS a lot?
Sure, but it was also on the front cover of several major SF magazines within a few weeks of its release.

Well there you go. We got cheers at our screening.

(fixed your Quote tags)

The only problem is that name-calling such as that is discouraged under the rules by which you agreed to abide when you signed up here, whereas wording it just a bit differently should present no problem at all.

Also, let me direct your attention to the Multi-Quote button, which allows you to respond to several people in a single post and avoid the three-posts-in-a-row thing.

I don't know why I'm piddling on this thread, but -

It's been long enough between Trek manifestations that this film "flopping" (a la Nemesis) is highly unlikely. It's a near shoe-in to be a modest success, with the potential to be a blockbuster. And that's probably, end of the day, why it exists, it's a good roll of the dice. Even a modestly successful film will also give the whole franchise a shot in the arm (also related I beleive to the time gap), all the DVDs etc. will have increased sales. It's a win win if you're Paramount.

And Paramount is trying my patience, my hardcore patience. My sweet, sweet patience. For the last couple of years we fans have endured torture bit by fucking bit, only to not have at least some pay off in the end.
Oh please. For the general public, Trek XI does not even yet exist. Your "disappointment" counts for jack squat.
Which just shows what dumbass you are. For the general public if Trek doesn't even exist, isn't it in Paramount's best interest to get the hype going from now on? If Watchmen, T4 and Wolverine can do so, why not ST?
If only Paramount had released some of preview or trailer, if you will, along with some big movie in theatres about maybe 8 months ago.

But there hasn't been any movie that's been advertised as you're wanting for 9 months. There's also a limit as to how long you can promote something and still have that promotion effecting the outcome before it becomes "noise".

Paramount should have put on a big presentation at Comic-Con, instead of just handing out posters at their tiny booth. The studio blew a golden opportunity to get the buzz going. To claim otherwise is just sour grapes.

Yes...they missed a golden opportunity to inform a bunch of people who already knew about the movie.

The hype from SDCC transcends just the people who attend the con. Why does every website have nonstop coverage? I didn't go. I live in Texas, but i know Watchmen is what everyone was talking about. There won't be another San Diego before the movie and they did miss an opportunity.

Anyone who doesn't see this point is a shill just blindly supporting every decision in regards to the movie.

You may want to check your definition of "shill" or point out where anyone here is getting paid by Paramount or anyone else connected with the movie.

I'll wait.
