I think they populate the enterprise with 20-something year old kids it won't be taken seriously.

look this guy looks more like nsync than capt kirk

People in their twenties are 'kids' to you? How old are you?

It's a prequel movie. Hence, the characters are younger. As Shatner was in his 30s in TOS, that kind of leads itself to... his 20s for this movie. You want a prequel of 30-something Shatner by casting a 50 year old?

6. New ship, new crew...one that has no fan base.
even though they are using TOS characters, this is still basically what they are doing..

Erm that's a contradiction in terms. Your point is they're using the existing TOS characters, but inventing whole new characters? That doesn't begin to make sense. TOS has a big fan base. And this is the same crew, the same ship, the same universe - that fan base will go see the movie.

Do you think populating it with some fat, old, ugly guys would be a better sell? I thought they were trying to attract a new generation of fans. I know Quinto already has a following from his Hero's show so don't you think some of his fans will want to see this too? In Sync looking guys attract lots of females, another good move. And youthful actors are better able to do the action scenes TOS was famous for (or at least their doubles are). Considering its longevity, TOS had to be doing something right. Kirk & Spock were in their early 30's in TOS, so this does not seem like a stretch to me.

No they're not, as evidenced by this forum the new movie already has many fans.
You can't gauge how many fans something has by internet hype. There were people all over this forum that thought enterprise was a great show and it still got no ratings.
You also can't say all TOS fans are automatically gonna be lining up for this movie, some may be very put off by that metrosexual looking dude as Kirk. The movie could end up being completely renounced by TOS fans.

yeah but it's gonna be the muppet babies version of star trek

So what? Even if that were true - and it isn't - the studio wasn't going to do anything else interesting with the property.

The old "Star Trek" - the original ENT/TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY continuity - is dead on screen and will remain so.

Could...but probably won't. We're all addicted to Trek and we haven't had a fix in 3 years, 4 by the time the movie opens.

But Comic Con is the way to achieve world wide recognition? :vulcan:

Can you post one image of Pine as Kirk in which he looks "metrosexual" in any way?

No, he can't.

I think "metrosexual" just means "handsome and looks as if he bathes" to some people.

You know, Willie Shatner was one pretty boy back in the TOS days - face smooth as a baby's bottom and a nose that starlets would have blown their plastic surgeons for.

Maybe they'll throw in some kid Russian character and make him wear a mop, trying to cash in on Beetlemania or something.

What will they think of next?

No, he can't.

if he thinks pine always looks the way he does in that photo he is mistaken.

and unless the movie only gets to play on second rate theatres with almost no ad budget i dont think you can equal it to enterprise.
;)

And Paramount is trying my patience, my hardcore patience. My sweet, sweet patience. For the last couple of years we fans have endured torture bit by fucking bit, only to not have at least some pay off in the end.
Oh please. For the general public, Trek XI does not even yet exist. Your "disappointment" counts for jack squat.
Which just shows what dumbass you are. For the general public if Trek doesn't even exist, isn't it in Paramount's best interest to get the hype going from now on? If Watchmen, T4 and Wolverine can do so, why not ST?

Because the people making the movie have arranged with Paramount to promote it differently than is being done with those other films. We'll see sooner or later whether that was the right choice, but it's their gig.

Meanwhile, Temis' direct but perhaps less-than-elegant rebuttal to a somewhat hyperbolic slice of your originating post does not make it okay for you to call her a dumbass. You might think it so (and there is no rule against that) but, in the future, kindly find another way of getting your point across textually. [/mod harrumph]
