Not.
This is a total redesign of the "trek" universe. People won't like all of it.
I love Batman:Adam West is what I grew up with, my brother turned me on to Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns", I loved the first Tim Burton Movie, watched the second one, I own "Batman Forever" (which I think is weaker than the Burton movies), I mourned for "Batman and Robin" because it became a parody of itself. I loved "Batman Begins", and "The Dark Knight" was the best movie I've seen in two years.
Point being, I loved all the permutations, and had no issues connecting the concepts, why? They all had Batman fighting bad guys with some cool tricks. Some had Robin, some had Batgirl, some had nipples, some had torn leather. They were all recognizable as Batman.
I liked some better than others, but I enjoyed most all of it.
How many times has James Bond been reinvented? Some people like some versions, not others, but I can appreciate all the versions which have been done.
This is Star Trek, with James Kirk, Leonard McCoy, Spock, and many other characters I have loved all my life. It will be different, and I won't like everything, but I will enjoy the experience, and decide later whether I want to buy it on Blue-ray (OK-who am I kidding, I own Batman Forever! LOL)
It's a story, about characters I care about, and ultimately about a different more optimistic view of the future than most of the "future" stories in the movies. I hope that many people go to see it, and grow to love these characters, and these concepts, as I have. Many people will decide that they aren't any good, and a can accept that. My brother is STILL pissed that the Return of the King left out the cleansing of the shire, and refuses to watch I can't stand ANY of the Highlander sequels, although I did enjoy the series.
My point is, If you don't enjoy it, OK. I'm sorry, but Trek WILL live on despite your rejection.
BTW-just for argument's sake-I may end up HATING this, but I doubt it. It is after all, just a story about a man, and a ship, and the people who become his family. I imagine we'll still get that.
Flame me, disagree, call me a trek whore, whatever. Life's too short to worry about the thickness of the nacelles. (he,he: he said thickness, he,he)
