Trek XI Cameos

An oblique reference to the "salute" he's giving in your avatar image. ;)

Ah :D
Would be funny, but then... none of the kids could see the movie, given the American over-sensitivity when it comes to rude gestures or swearing ;) :D

In that case the censors missed the bus scene in Trek IV.

Ah, the 80s ;)

But then there was this moment in 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' where some musical- or sound-effect is played over Steve Martin's sonofabitch when he runs after the taxi (probably to relax the censors because of the later scene in the fucking ;) car-rental)

I think we may see one or two surprise cameos from TNG, DS9 or maybe even Voyager cast members in the 24th century scenes before Spock goes back in time. The tie-in comic prequel already suggests TNG era characters.

I don't think there will be any 24th century scenes. I suspect all the 24th century stuff will be coverd in the comic.

There WILL be 24th century scenes.
Why so?
a) I don't know HOW Old Spock finds out about Nero's plans to alter the past. But I know WHEN: in the 24th century! Otherwise, why cast Leonard Nimoy in the movie... as Spock?
b) John Eaves in one of the movie's designers. And what did he do in the former movies/shows? He designed 24th century ships, either human or alien!

JJ Abram's co-writers already said the movie is part sequel and part prequel. The very beginning shows the attack on the Kelvin before Kirk's born, but then it goes to the 24th century to show how it ties into the future, before Spock goes back to Kirk's time where the rest of the movie plays out.

While I am quite certain the movie will have some scenes set in the 24th century, I'm afraid this reasoning doesn't hold up. After all, 23rd century scenes will feature the Romulan timeship (the Space Octopus) which he will undoubetedly design.

Is Nero's ship really the Space Octopus we've read about?
EW describes a "part Mordor, part Death Star" vessel...
and either way, it's not Eaves' style...

I doubt we'd see anything more than a glimpse of the 24th Century.

The future part of the story will be covered in a Comic-book series leading up to the movie, and written by Orci and Kurtzman.

EW described the interior as "part Mordor, part Death Star." The exterior is octopus shaped. It's all explained at Ex Astris Scientia.

http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/schematics/stxi_ships.htm

The relevant part is near the bottom of the page, which I will quote here:

1) The Romulans travel from the 24th century to the 23rd century in this ship, but it is not necessarily built for time travel. The ship is commanded by Nero. The design of its interior is apparently different than traditional TNG era Romulan design and said to be "surreal". No name of the Romulan ship has been mentioned so far.
2) Among the action figures and the new Enterprise a new starship was spotted at the International Toy Fair in Nürnberg: "It resembled an octopus and could have appeared in one of the Matrix sequels. I don’t think it was Romulan." Unless there are other aliens in the movie, this could be the "surreal" Romulan vessel though.

I think that in the background, Avery Brookes and Terry Farrell should be seen beaming onto the ship as Kirk and McCoy walk along the corridor chatting. They should turn away quickly and pretend to be working on something.

Yeah, that would be funny!

Let me quote too, from EW:

"Aboard a monstrous and gloomy interstellar cruiser — part Death Star, part Mordor "

Why are you implying they're describing ONLY the ship's interiors?
And by way, no offense to Bernd Schneider (his site is one of the very best around), but he's hardly one of the best sources for info regarding the new movie...

Mordor has no exterior to speak of, so if you're going to describe a ship as "part Mordor" you must be referring to interior. Simple logic.

What are you on about? Mordor is a tower!

Barad-Dur was the tower; Mordor was the land ruled from the tower. The EW article is rather distressingly non-specific in respect to what the Mordor/Death Star description is actually supposed to apply, other than it's something to do with the ship.

Then again, the article also speaks of the movie in terms of Spock as Kirk's "young half-human, half-Vulcan BFF" and other such cutesy Hollywood gossip-magazine language that it's almost enough to make you lose your lunch, so I'm not sure I'd be reading too much into it if I were anyone here.

I, Sir, stand corrected. To my defense I can only say that it's been ages since I last read Tolkien... or seen Peter Jackson's movies!;)
So, back to the discussion...
On one hand, we have a report wich is months old, quoting some anonymous source, stating that one of the forthcoming movie-based toys is an alien, octopus-shaped ship, that "doesn't look romulan". On the other, we have a much more recent EW article, describing a vessel that is "part Mordor, part Death Star". I may be wrong, but they can't be talking about the same ship...

I suspect we simply don't know enough to be able to tell, one way or the other, at this point. Not all of what little information we do have is entirely reliable.

Keeps things interesting, though.

Someone oughta get busy and Photoshop us one*. I'll bet none of the other forums have a Space Octopus as a mascot.

* but make sure it's not one of those goofy ones from "Encounter at Farpoint"
